  Falklands' tender process for construction of vulnerable person' care facility

  

  The Falkland Islands Executive Council has selected Galliford Try as the preferred company for the construction of the new Vulnerable Person’s Extra Care Facility in Stanley. The decision follows a detailed scrutiny of the bids received by Members of the Legislative Assembly and Government officers, who subsequently submitted recommendations to the Executive Council.

  Falklands plans to adopt the UK Port Marine Safety Code in the maritime sector

  

  The Falkland Islands government has reported it is working with partners to strengthen the existing safety management system at FIPASS, and is looking at moving towards the adoption of the UK Port Marine Safety Code to improve the standards of safety in the maritime sector. Additionally FIG has engaged with a marine consultancy to commission works to safely vent the remaining sealed ballast tanks at FIPASS.

  The U.K. has confirmed its commitment to the continued development of the Eurofighter program in accordance with its new Combat Air Strategy. The new doctrine was released by U.K. defense officials on Monday at the Farnborough International Air-show.   North Falkland Sea Lion Project: Premier Oil advancing in contracting suppliers

  

  Dril-Quip (Europe) in Aberdeen has announced a letter of intent with Premier Oil to provide subsea production systems for the Sea Lion Phase 1 development offshore the Falkland Islands. The letter of intent signed was described as a sizeable supply contract, but was undisclosed.

  Spanish fishing boat “Dorneda” sunk in Argentine Waters

  

  A Spanish fishing trawler sank in rough weather off Argentina’s coast and at least one crewmember died, Argentina's Navy said Wednesday. Twenty-five crewmembers were rescued and one was missing.

  Lord Carrington, a versatile British politician who held senior posts under Conservative prime ministers from Winston Churchill to Margaret Thatcher and who was secretary general of NATO in the last years of the Cold War, died on Monday. He was 99.
