    Spain hopes to reach an agreement with the UK over Gibraltar by the summer, its foreign minister has said. Alfonso Dastis said Spain would “defend our position” but the two sides were “working towards” an agreement as soon as possible. The UK says “informal” talks are going on about Gibraltar's post-Brexit future with Spain.

    UK/EU transition includes Gibraltar, but Spain retains veto power

    The differences between the UK and EU were evident during a press conference in Brussels as Mr. Davis and Mr. Barnier answered questions on the issue.

    The UK and the European Union have agreed the terms of a transition deal that covers Gibraltar but also maintains Spain’s controversial veto, according to a report from the Gibraltar Chronicle. Gibraltar is included within the territorial scope of a draft withdrawal agreement that also sets out arrangements to smooth the UK’s departure from the bloc after March 2019.

    Gibraltar lowers the EU flag and flies the Commonwealth colors

    Gibraltar and UK are leaving the EU in 2019 and Gibraltar's policy has been to expand ”our links with the Commonwealth at the same time.”

    The flag of the European Union at different points in Gibraltar was lowered over the weekend and replaced by the flag of the Commonwealth, marking Commonwealth Day. It has been traditional for the Commonwealth flag to fly on that day over No.6 Convent Place, the seat of Government in Gibraltar.

    Gibraltar in shock: it will mobilize all its options to counter any EU exclusion

    Clause 24 purports to give Spain a veto on the application to Gibraltar of the transitional period and of the future UK- EU relationship agreement.

    The Government of Gibraltar has stated that it is not surprised by the reference to Clause 24 in a footnote to the draft legal text on the Withdrawal Agreement published by the European Union27 on Wednesday. However, it nonetheless constitutes a disgraceful affront to a small British country that voted by 96% to remain in the European Union.

    The 65,000-tonne future flagship, will be conducting a routine logistics stop having left her home in Portsmouth last week for helicopter trials.

    The Royal Navy’s new aircraft carrier HMS Queen Elizabeth arrived in Gibraltar for her first overseas port visit. As she sailed into port under close security escort, UK Defense Secretary Gavin Williamson highlighted the Rock’s strategic role for UK military operations.

    Gibraltar cannot be the whipping boy of Brexit Garcia tells EU

    The Deputy Chief Minister stressed the importance of continued cross-border fluidity once Gibraltar was outside the European Union.

    In an address to a Brussels think tank, the (Germany's Liberal Party) Friedrich Naumann Foundation, the Deputy Chief Minister Dr Joseph Garcia has declared that it would be manifestly unfair to use Gibraltar as a whipping boy who was made to suffer the consequences of Europe‘s wider disagreements with the United Kingdom.

    Falklands congratulate Gibraltar political leader on his knighthood

     MLA Teslyn Barkman, said: “We were delighted to learn of Sir Joe receiving this well-deserved honour and offer him our warmest congratulations.”

    The Falkland Islands Government, FIG, has congratulated Gibraltar minister Joe Bossano on being awarded a knighthood in the Queen’s New Year’s Honours List for 2018. In a statement in which it described Sir Joe as a “long-standing friend of the Falkland Islands”, FIG said he has spoken vociferously in support of Falkland Islander’s right to self-determination at various international forums.

    Gibraltar recalls 35th anniversary of the opening of the frontier

    In 1982 the PSOE Socialist Government, led by Felipe Gonzalez, took the unilateral decision to lift the restrictions.

    Gibraltar will recall on December 15th the 35th Anniversary of the Opening of the Frontier. The decision to end the thirteen year blockade of Gibraltar to strangle its economy taken by the Spanish Dictator General Franco in 1969, was put into effect by the PSOE.
