    Reducing fisheries wastage, harmful practices and improving traceability

    Food chain traceability is increasingly a requirement in major fish markets

    An estimated 1.3 billion tons of food are lost per year, which is up to about one-third of all food produced. This figure includes post-harvest fish losses, which tend to be greater in small-scale fisheries, according to the latest edition of FAO’s The State of World Fisheries and Aquaculture.

    EC makes public list of countries with yellow cards for involvement in illegal fishing

    Commissioner for Maritime Affairs and Fisheries, Maria Damanaki said West Africa has been identified as a major source of illegal fishing.

    European Commission (EC) is urging European countries to impose trade sanction on Belize over illegal fishing, while warning Curacao that it may be next. The EC also urged European Union governments to hit Cambodia and Guinea with the sanctions, cautioning South Korea and Ghana that they, too, may be next in line.
