  Brexit debate in the streets of London: tens of thousands march for, and against leaving the EU

  

  Tens of thousands of people have marched on Saturday in central London to demand a final vote on any UK exit deal, on the second anniversary of the Brexit vote. Organizers of the People's Vote march say Brexit is “not a done deal” and people must “make their voices heard”. Meanwhile, hundreds attended a pro-Brexit counter-protest. It came as senior Cabinet ministers, including Liam Fox and David Davis, insisted the UK is prepared to walk away from talks without an agreement.

  The Scottish Parliament voted against British Prime Minister Theresa May’s landmark Brexit legislation, setting up a potential constitutional crisis and further complicating the path to an orderly departure. Lawmakers in Edinburgh voted 93-30 to withhold consent for the EU withdrawal bill. The U.K. can disregard the vote, but it would be the first time London asserts its dominance over the regional parliament.

  London mayor calls on voters to try and halt a hard Brexit with a massive turnout in local elections

  

  London Mayor Sadiq Khan has called on the capital’s 1.1 million EU nationals to turn out in force at next week’s local elections to try to halt a hard Brexit. Speaking ahead of campaigning in south London with Labour’s shadow Brexit secretary Sir Keir Starmer, Mr Khan said the Windrush scandal showed the Tories’ “divisive” stance on immigration.
