Views from Latin America and the United Kingdom”. Britain participated with a pavilion at Expomin, which is the largest mining exhibition in the Latin-American region.

  Chile celebrates contact with trapped miners; rescue “will take months”

  

  Thirty-three miners who have been trapped underground in a northern Chile mine for the past 17 days are all alive, President Sebastian Piñera announced Sunday. Rescuers heard hammering noises when they sent a new probe into the mine.

  San Jose tragedy: Piñera demands resignation of mining regulatory board

  

  Chilean president Sebastián Piñera called for the resignation of top officials from the national mining regulatory body (the National Geologic and Mining Service of Chile, Sernageomin) as a result of last Thursday’s mine collapse in northern Chile, where 33 miners remain trapped. Sernageomin’s national director, the regional director and the sub-director of were all named in the announcement.
