    Commercial “Proving flight” to St Helena with 35 passengers next August 21

    The Embraer E190 aircraft will be carrying around 35 passengers, a mixture of Airlink Senior Management and representatives from the SACAA.

    Airlink are expected to carry out a ‘proving flight’ to the British Oversea Territory of St Helena on Monday, 21 August 2017, using an Embraer E190-100IGW aircraft. This proving flight is for Airlink to demonstrate to the South African Civil Aviation Authority (SACAA) operational proficiency in terms of ETOPS (Extended Range Twin Engine Operations) requirements.

    St Helena celebrates: charter plane lands with 60 passengers; RMS scheduled to depart Friday

    SA Airlink successfully carried out the flight operation on Wednesday using a British Aerospace 146 Avro RJ85 aircraft.

    British Overseas Territory of St Helena, an island in the middle of the south Atlantic, celebrated on Wednesday 3 May 2017, when a charter plane carrying 60 passengers landed at St Helena Airport at 1.55pm, helping to reestablish links with South Africa. Another good piece of news was that RMS St Helena, the regular connection with St Helena is scheduled to depart Cape Town on Friday.

    St Helena airport granted an “open ended” Aerodrome Certificate

    The airport fulfills the UK Government’s commitment to maintaining access to St Helena and provide it with a real opportunity for economic growth

    British Overseas Territory St Helena Airport was granted an ‘open ended’ Aerodrome Certificate on Monday, on 3 April 2017, following the visit by experts from the Air Safety Support International.

    Positive outcome of ASSI visit to St Helena Airport

    The St Helena airport has received an ASSI endorsed certification of Air Traffic Services for a twelve month period from 3 April 2017

    Senior Aerodrome Inspector, Justin Rothwell, and Air Traffic Services Inspector, Sarah Lee, from Air Safety Support International (ASSI), the regulator for St Helena Airport, visited the Island recently. The purpose of their visit, according to an official release from the Overseas Territory, was to undertake an audit to consider the extension of the certification of St Helena Airport.

    Milestone for St Helena Airport: certification for aviation safety and security standards

    Certification is an ongoing process, with this Aerodrome Certificate replacing the first version which was valid until 9 November 2016.

    A milestone for St Helena Airport was achieved on Wednesday 26 October 2016, with Air Safety Support International (ASSI) issuing a second Aerodrome Certificate to St Helena Airport - having been satisfied that the Airport infrastructure, aviation security measures and air traffic control service complies with international aviation safety and security standards.

    St Helena airport scheduled to receive 80 pax Avro RJ100 to be delivered in Chile

    The Avro RJ100 ((picture) is scheduled to land in St Helena airport on Friday 21 October 2016.

    Planning is underway for an Avro RJ100 jet aircraft, operated by Tronos Jet Maintenance and flown by Atlantic Star Airlines, with final destination Chile, to fly to Ascension Island, followed by a call at St Helena Airport on the same day. Both are technical stops, and the crew will overnight on St Helena.

    St Helena airport “too dangerous to use” opens prospect of £285m compensation claim

    The airport was to be opened last May but test pilots said it was too dangerous to use, and it remains closed to commercial flights.

    Britain faces the prospect of compensation claims over a disastrous overseas aid project to build an airport on the remote island of St Helena, according to reports in the UK media. The £285million flop became a symbol of Britain’s aid waste this year after experts warned it might never open because of severe problems with wind conditions on the British Overseas Territory in the South Atlantic Ocean.

    NOAA “flying laboratory” scheduled to circle St Helena Island

    SHG understands that the NOAA aircraft will undertake three circuits over the Island at different altitudes, before heading off to the South West coast of Africa.

    As part of an international study to be able to deliver more accurate weather forecasts across the South Atlantic, a United States NOAA (National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration) “flying laboratory” is planning to operate over St Helena this coming weekend, to undertake a series of weather-related measurements.

    RMS St Helena schedule extended another year until airport is ready for commercial flights

    The extension of the RMS St Helena service also allows the island more flexible planning as it prepares for the introduction of commercial flights to the island.

    RMS St. Helena, one of the last Royal Mail Ships in the world is to continue serving her remote South Atlantic island namesake until 1 July 2017, the St Helena Government has announced. The RMS passenger and freight service will continue to operate between Cape Town, St Helena and Ascension Island with the extended schedule confirmed by the island's director of tourism.

    Convention on Biological Diversity extended to the Falkland Islands

    MLA Poole, Environment Portfolio-Holder, explained CBD allows the Islands to be part of an international club and learn from experience across member states.”

    The United Kingdom ratification to the Convention on Biological Diversity was formally extended to the Falkland Islands on Wednesday (June 29). The CBD is an agreement on environmental management and best practice and originated from the 1992 Rio Conference on environment and development.
