    2016 St Helena’s Day celebrations were this year held on Friday 20 May 2016, and were reckoned by all to be a great success. Once again organized by New Horizons and held in lower Jamestown, traditional activities and stalls were arranged in both the Mule Yard and along the Seafront area.

    St. Helena airport certified, which brings opening day closer

    St Helena’s first Aerodrome Certificate is valid until 9 November 2016, at which point the Airport will need to be re-certified.

    British Overseas Territory St. Helena achieved a major milestone on Tuesday when Air Safety Support International (ASSI) issued an Aerodrome Certificate to brand new St Helena Airport - having been satisfied that the Airport infrastructure, aviation security measures and air traffic control service complies with international aviation safety and security standards. This follows a final inspection of the Airport by an ASSI team last month.

    St Helena postpones official opening of the new airport

    Last week the Island’s Air Service Provider, Comair, brought a Boeing 737-800 aircraft to St Helena on an ‘Implementation Flight’

    The St. Helena Government confirms that further safety and operational work is required prior to the Official Opening of the Island’s new Airport – and that this event has therefore been postponed. While this means that the Airport will not officially open on 21 May 2016 as originally planned, the safety of aircraft and passengers is of course paramount.(MP, 15 and 19 April).

    First commercial airliner lands in St Helena: new chapter of opportunities for the BOT island in mid Atlantic

    British Airways Boeing 737-800 prepares to touch down at St Helena’s airport.  It is the actual Boeing aircraft which will serve the St Helena/Johannesburg route.

    The British Overseas Territory St Helena in mid Atlantic made history on Monday as the first large passenger jet aircraft, a Boeing 737-800 (ZS-ZWG), touched down at St Helena’s new Airport shortly after 12.00 noon. This is the actual Boeing aircraft which will serve the St Helena/Johannesburg rout, according to a release from the local government.

    The Government of St Helena has announced that the official opening of the island's new airport is set to take place on 21 May 2016, in the presence of HRH The Prince Edward, Earl of Wessex. For the British Overseas Territory island in mid Atlantic and with an only monthly sea link, the airport means a dream come true, and both the St Helena and UK governments hope that this will lead to eventual financial self-sustainability.

    First jet aircraft lands at St Helena recently finished airport

    Passengers coming off the Bombardier Challenger 300. It is scheduled to depart from St Helena next Friday

    Great day of the British Overseas Territory of St Helena: the first jet aircraft landed at the recently concluded airport in the island located in the middle of the Atlantic Ocean. The business jet was chartered by Air Safety Support International (ASSI) to bring its team of five personnel to St Helena to assess St Helena Airport.

    South Africa's Comair ready to operate from St Helena's airport with a Boeing 737/800

    Venter said he was optimistic that the inaugural flight should take place by May this year. Nonetheless, Comair announced flight times to the island.

    South African airline Comair will operate the Boeing 737-800, configured to seat about 120 passengers, on the route from the St Helena Island’s airport to Johannesburg. A British Overseas Territory, St Helena is a remote South Atlantic island, where French emperor Napoleon Bonaparte was once exiled and died after his defeat at Waterloo.

    Ginny Ferson appointed to St Helena to oversee implementation of Wass Report.

    Ms Ferson is currently the Deputy Governor of Bermuda and previously held the position of Deputy Governor of Pitcairn

    The Foreign Office can confirm that Ms Ginny Ferson has been appointed to British Overseas Territory St Helena, as UK Government Special Representative: Wass Inquiry Implementation. This is part of the UK Government’s commitment to implementing the Wass report’s recommendations.
