    NIESR 2015 global economic growth forecast lowered from 3.2% to 3%

    Growth forecasts for US and many emerging market economies was lowered but for the Euro zone was only cut slightly.

    Global economic growth will slow this year to the lowest rate since the financial crisis, according to the National Institute of Economic and Social Research (NIESR). The think tank cut its 2015 forecast to 3.0% from the 3.2% it predicted in May.

    PM Cameron: UK must not become a safe haven for corrupt money from around the world

    Describing corruption as “the enemy of progress”, PM Cameron will call for a “global effort” to tackle it, the world has “looked the other way for too long”.

    Foreigners must be stopped from buying UK homes with “plundered or laundered cash” and a “global effort” launched to defeat corruption, David Cameron will say in a speech later. Cameron will vow to expose the use of “anonymous shell companies” to buy luxury UK properties - often in London.

    Argentine diplomats questioned in Montevideo why the United Kingdom is not punished for its denial to comply with the UN General Assembly Resolution from 1965 which calls on Argentina and the UK to sit and dialogue on the Falklands/Malvinas dispute. They also denied any attempts from Argentina to suffocate the Falklands economy or hydrocarbons industry.

    Falklands/Malvinas special session at Aladi's offices in Montevideo

    Aladi founded in 1980, includes Argentina, Bolivia, Brazil, Chile, Colombia, Cuba, Ecuador, Mexico, Panama, Paraguay, Peru, Venezuela and Uruguay.

    The Latin American Integration Association, Aladi, with main offices in Montevideo, will be holding on Thursday an extraordinary meeting on the Falklands/Malvinas Islands question in the framework of the recent Day of Affirmation of Argentine rights over the South Atlantic Islands (June 10), and the fiftieth anniversary of UN Assembly Resolution 2065, which called on Argentina and UK to dialogue and find a solution to the dispute.

    The latest Mercosur summit, held last week in Brazil included a special statement, --besides the main regular declaration with 69 articles--, blasting the UK for violating international law and Argentine domestic law over the exploration of hydrocarbons “in the Argentine continental shelf in proximity of the Malvinas Islands”.

    Aphids beat latest 'odor' efforts to repel them and protect GM crops

    GM crops are being grown commercially since 1996. Land with GM crops has increased from 1.7m in 1996 to around 175.2m hectares worldwide in 2013.

    In what is described as a major blow to genetic modification of crops, a variety of wheat developed in the UK to repel pests has failed in field trials. The variety engineered to produce an odor that repels aphids, failed in the field test after it was successfully tested in the lab, proving a wide gap between lab and commercial application of the process.

    A group of lawmakers from six Latin American countries and Argentine officials met in Ushuaia in support of Argentine 'legitimate sovereignty rights over Malvinas, Georgia and South Sandwich Islands', in the framework of UN General Assembly Resolution 2065 fiftieth anniversary celebration, which called on the United Kingdom and Argentina to reach a peaceful negotiated solution over the Falklands/Malvinas dispute through bilateral discussions.
