    MP Rosindell: Time for Spain to back off, time for Britain to back up Gibraltar

    “The reality Madrid must accept is that Gibraltar is firmly British. It has been for hundreds of years, and the people have no desire to become part of Spain”.

    Britain cannot allow Spain to continue to ignore international law and bully Gibraltar, said MP Andrew Rosindell following the latest incursion in Gibraltar waters, this time a Spanish Customs crew that actually fired shots to a British-Gibraltarian fishing cruise.

    The Spanish Government’s measures toward Gibraltar are ‘bearing fruit, Spain’s Foreign Minister Jose Manuel García-Margallo said in a weekend interview in which he vowed to maintain pressure on the Rock. Although the minister’s tough language on Gibraltar was nothing new, it was the second time within the space of a week that he had spoken out on the Rock.

    A record of 31 professionals from Uruguay have been awarded with Chevening scholarships to study courses in different disciplines in the United Kingdom. Chevening are UK government’s global scholarship program, funded by the Foreign and Commonwealth Office and partner organizations, such as Uruguay's research and innovation office, ANII.

    Falklands' air defenses bolstered with Saab-built Giraffe AMB radars

    The MoD confirmed in the first quarter of the year it was upgrading Falkland's air defenses including mandating the use of the Giraffe in the update.

    Britain has ordered additional Saab-built Giraffe AMB radars to bolster ground-based air defenses on the Falkland Islands against a possible future threat from Argentina, reports Defense News. The Swedish company announced on 24 August that it had received an order valued at 610 Swedish krona million ($74 million dollars) from the UK Ministry of Defense for the supply of new radars and the upgrade of existing systems.

    The British embassy in Iran has reopened, nearly four years after it was closed. Foreign Secretary Philip Hammond attended a ceremony on Sunday in Teheran with Iranian diplomats to mark the reopening while Iran has also reopened its embassy in London.

    Ecuador hits back at the UK over the Assange asylum case in London

    Foreign Office minister Hugo Swire said Ecuador's decision to harbor Assange had prevented the proper course of justice.

    Ecuador has hit back at the UK government over who is to blame for the deadlock in the case of WikiLeaks founder Julian Assange. The 44-year-old Australian has been living in Ecuador's embassy in London for more than three years to avoid extradition to Sweden, where he faces sexual assault allegations.
