    Uruguay foreign minister will meet UK's Boris Johnson next Monday in London

    Last week Nin Novoa received UK Under Secretary of International Trade, Mark Garnier (L), in anticipation of the London meeting.

    Uruguay's foreign minister Rodolfo Nin Novoa announced he will be meeting foreign secretary Boris Johnson next Monday, in London to address Brexit consequences and Uruguay's interest is reaching a trade agreement with the UK. Although both sides are interested in such an understanding, this will be an initial contact, “the strong intention which will have to be followed up by detailed negotiations”, points out the Uruguayan government ministry.

    UK Export Finance is increasing its support for British trade with Uruguay

    UKEF support is also available in Uruguay Pesos, allowing Uruguayan buyers to access finance in their own currency making sourcing from UK more competitive.

    UK Export Finance (UKEF) support available for trade with Uruguay is increasing to up to £4 billion, meaning an additional £2.25 billion in support for UK companies exporting to Uruguay and for Uruguayan buyers of UK goods and services. This finance can be used to support projects across numerous sectors including infrastructure.

    Mujica's wife Lucia Topolansky becomes Uruguay's vice-president

    The General assembly session convened at 10:00 in the morning and following a brief recess, at 10:40 Senator Lucia Topolansky took the oath of office.

    Uruguay has a new vice-president following the resignation of the questioned and discredited Raul Sendic. On Wednesday mid-morning, Lucia Topolansky, wife of ex president Jose Mujica received unanimous support from the General Assembly (123/123). Under the Uruguayan constitution the head of the most voted Senate group of the winning party in the last election, in this case the MPP (Popular Participation Movement), leads in the presidential succession line. She is the first woman to occupy such a post.

    Uruguay has announced that the United States Federal Registry published that beginning 12 October Uruguayan ovine meat, with bone, will have access to the US market. This follows a long decades process which obtained its first milestone at the end of 2013, when access to the US market was granted to boneless lamb and mutton, with the first shipment in early 2014.

    The Argentine embassy met with officials from the Uruguayan Rural Association, ARU, to express their disappointment since the Falkland Islands have a stand at the Great Britain pavilion in the Prado agro-industry show in Montevideo, according to a report from Television Nacional, which belongs to the Uruguayan government media complex.
