    BBC airs advance of Top Gear Patagonia program to be shown December 27/28

    Jeremy Clarkson has said that the attack on himself and the Top Gear crew in Argentina was the scariest experience of his life.

    The controversial two-part episode of BBC's Top Gear filmed in Argentina will be shown on Saturday, December 27 and Sunday, December 28 on BBC Two at 8pm on both days. A few seconds advance of the show was aired this week in anticipation of the major launching.

    Busy weekend in Ushuaia for Antarctica cruises: 1.249 visitors

    Argentine swimmer crosses the Falklands' sound in 2 hours and 7 minutes

    Argentine amateur distance swimmer Agustin Barletti (53) swam across Falklands Sound on November 9 in 2 hours and 7 minutes. The Argentine, who has also swum the Strait of Gibraltar between Europe and Africa hit it lucky with calm weather and the swell only increasing as he finished.

    Busy October in South Georgia: 21 harbor calls and 400 paying cruise visitors

    Uruguay expects fifty cruise calls less this season, reveals tourism official

    “The fall can be explained because we are in a region, and the cruise industry this season is calling less, which means less vessels”, said Carambula

    Uruguay will be receiving fifty cruise calls less this 2014/15 season, which is 26% down compared to a year ago, revealed the country's Deputy Tourism and Sports minister, Antonio Carambula during the official launching of the season. This means Montevideo will be hosting 104 calls and Punta del Este, 70, compared to the 237 between both terminals (121 and 116) in 2013/14.

    Gibraltar with new air links: to Bristol and Morocco

    The Chamber added that re-establishing the first air link between Gibraltar and Tangier in decades was another welcome development.

    The Gibraltar Chamber of Commerce has welcomed the announcement of new air links to the UK and to Morocco, highlighting the tourism and business opportunities they will create. In a statement, it said the addition of the Gibraltar-Bristol route would open up additional markets for visitors, both business people and tourists, from Wales and the south west of England.

    Ushuaia gateway to Antarctica: of 295 cruise calls this season 60% will travel south

    Half of tourists visiting Tierra del Fuego, 50% arrive in cruise vessels

    Ushuaia, the world's southern most city and gateway to Antarctica cruises expects this 2014/2015 season an estimated forty vessels and 295 calls, according to Tierra del Fuego province port authorities. As usual the first vessel to arrive was Chilean flagged Stella Australis with 210 passengers, at the end of September, which is also expected to close the season in April next year.

    Punta Arenas expects 60.000 visitors this cruise season

    Zaandam was scheduled to arrive on Monday while Le Soleal has been in the area since last week

    An estimated 60.000 visitors will be landing in Punta Arenas, extreme south of Chile during this 2014/2015 cruise season, according to the manager of the Austral Ports Company, Ignacio Covacevich Fugellie. This includes 54.000 from international vessels and another 6.500 of Chilean flagged cruises on domestic tours.

    Uruguay expects poorer cruise season, partly compensated by Costa Cruises

    “Costa Pacifica” and “Costa Favolosa” will be operating this season from Montevideo

    Uruguay expects a slowing down of cruise activity this season, probably in the range of 10% less vessel calls, particularly in Punta del Este, because of “logistics problems with the circuits”. However this will be partly compensated by the two Costa Cruise company vessels that will be operating from Montevideo as the starting point and end of South Atlantic tours.

    Chilean cruise industry wants to 'catch' 'repeaters' with new options

    “There is a clear effort to ensure fidelity to cruise companies, by offering new adventures or new destinations, and that is where Chile can play a role”.

    The official 2014/2015 cruise season was recently launched in Chile with the announcement that in the November/April period an estimated 200.000 passengers with 168 vessels calling, will be visiting the country. However in an interesting twist for the industry, Chileans admit that together with the cruise companies they are intent in concentrating efforts in what is called 'repeaters'.
