  Guyana asks Google to remove Spanish names from Essequibo region which Venezuela claims

  

  Unasur (Union of South American Nations) member Guyana is asking Google to remove certain street names near its disputed shared border with Venezuela, Guyana's foreign minister announced. The names, in Spanish, seem to suggest they are part of Venezuela, Carl Greenidge said.

  Venezuelan opposition leader sentenced to 13 years in prison; Unasur statement expected Friday

  

  Venezuelan opposition leader Leopoldo Lopez was convicted inciting violence and sentenced to 13 years in prison on Thursday for his leading role in the 2014 street protests against the government of President Nicolas Maduro that spiralled into bloodshed, killing more than 40 people. A statement from Unasur (Union of South American Nations) is expected on Friday.

  Falklands/Malvinas: Unasur message in support of Argentina's claims

  

  Unasur and Argentina made public on Tuesday a letter dated last 5 April in which the regional group' Secretary General and former Colombian president Ernesto Samper, strongly supports Argentina's sovereignty claims over the Falklands/Malvinas and other South Atlantic Islands plus the adjoining maritime spaces.

  Brazil coordinates efforts to guarantee supply of basic products to Venezuela

  

  Following a request from Venezuela, the Brazilian government has acted alongside Brazilian companies to guarantee supply of basic products during Venezuela's economic crisis, according to diplomatic sources. The request was made by President Nicolas Maduro in at least two meetings with President Dilma Rousseff, in December 2014 and the day after Rousseff began her second term, on January 2.
