Science to claim sovereignty: Argentina makes official its South Atlantic 'Blue Pampa' initiative

Argentina made the official presentation to foreign diplomats in Buenos Aires of its “Blue Pampa” initiative described as an effort to collect more information on Argentine maritime spaces, surrounding areas and associated ecosystems, helping to create a South Atlantic conscience in the country. Five areas have been chosen to implement the initiative including South Georgia.

Argentines strongly disapprove of torture, but 49% are fearful if in custody

Nearly half of all Argentines say they fear suffering torture if they were detained by authorities, a figure that represents slightly more than the global average, an Amnesty International survey has revealed. The results from a series of questions on the issue show Argentina as one of the nations that most disapprove of torture among the 21 countries surveyed.

“Good manners” take you further, fighting is 'senseless' confessed Mujica

President Jose Mujica in a private dinner with Uruguayan media in Washington revealed that in his meetings with US officials he tried to show that with 'good manners' you can disagree and also advance because it is 'senseless' to fight. He also anticipated that when his mandate is over he plans to visit the Basque provinces from where his ancestors came to Uruguay in 1840.

In a 'dialogue without ties' at the World Bank President Jose Mujica said that Uruguay is a 'frontier country' which history did not want it to belong to any of the two big neighbors (Argentina and Brazil) so that the Atlantic ocean would not be left to an only country.

Consumer prices in Argentina decelerate, but controversy on how much persists
