Father of unified Germany Helmut Kohl dies

Former German Chancellor Helmut Kohl died on Friday morning in his home in Ludwigshafen, the Christian Democratic Union party (CDU) announced. The mentor of current Chancellor Angela Merkel and architect of Germany's reunification was 87 years old.

Ernestina Herrera de Noble, widow of Buenos Aires daily Clarin's founder Roberto Noble, died Wednesday in Buenos Aires, the newspaper's online edition announced. Herrera took over as publisher when her husband, who had started the business in 1945, passed away in 1969.

Lousiana Rep. Scalise among those shot at congressional baseball team practice

House Majority Floor Leader of the United States Congress -a position commonly referred to as “Whip”- Steve Scalise (R) was among those wounded Wednesday morning when members of the congressional baseball team where fired at as they were practicing on a field in Alexandria, Virginia. The sole gunman was identified as James T. Hodgkinson, aged 66. He was shot by police and later died of his wounds, President Donald Trump announced.

Commemorations for 35th anniversary of Liberation Day held in Falklands

Commemorations are being held in the Falkland Islands to mark the end of the Falklands War 35 years ago today. Liberation Day, as it is officially known in the Falklands, is commemorated every year on the 14th June to mark the end of 74 days of Argentine occupation in 1982.
