Chilean Navy celebrates “Month of the Sea” in Punta Arenas

Starting this Monday and until 4 May, the Chilean navy is celebrating the Month of the Sea, edition 2016, and has chosen Punta Arenas in the extreme south of the country as the epicenter of the event which includes the visit of president Michelle Bachelet on 3 May.

Lan's CEO agrees to pay fine in the US to settle charges involving operations in Argentina

Chile's LAN Airlines CEO will pay a US$75,000 fine to settle charges that he authorized improper payments to Argentina union officials to persuade them to ease their demands in a labor dispute, the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission.

Cueto group takes major loss because of Latam Airlines performance problems

Latam Airlines Group, made up of Chilean and Brazilian investors, ended last year with losses of 219 million dollars. However during the same period the Cueto family investment group, identified as Costa Verde Aeronautica, CVA, suffered even higher losses, 414 million dollars, mostly because of the performance problem of the largest Latin American airline.

Patricio Aylwin, the elected president who steered Chile back to democracy has died

The former president of Chile, Patricio Aylwin, has died aged 97 of natural causes, his family reported. Aylwin, a centre-right Christian Democrat, became president in 1990 and oversaw the transition to democracy following 17 years of military rule under General Augusto Pinochet.

Punta Arenas port authorities, in the extreme south of Chile, reported that during this 2015/16 cruise season there was a 35% increase in the number of cruise visitors, 77.248 passengers, and 121 vessel calls, one of the most encouraging in the last decade.

Chilean company fined by Argentina after admitting operating with Falklands' license

Argentina's Ministry of Agro-Industry has slapped the maximum fine to a Chilean fishing company, firm Empresas de Desarrollo Pesquero de Chile SA (Emdepes SA), a Chilean subsidiary of the Japanese group Nissui for illegal fishing activities in 2014 in Argentina's EEZ, close to the Falkland Islands.

Punta Arenas cruise season: 29% increase in the number of visitors landings

Almost 30% more cruise visitors landed in Punta Arenas, extreme south of Chile, during the current 2015/16 season which is coming to an end. According to Chile's maritime migration officers, 109.746 cruise passengers and crew members were recorded, which represents a 29% compared to the previous season. The primary report was released by La Prensa Austral.
