  Despite devastating rains and floods Chile's economy grew 1.6% in March

  

  Chile's economy grew at a modest pace in March, as a gradual rebound was weighed down by devastating floods and mudslides in its northern region, central bank data showed on Tuesday. The IMACEC economic activity index, which encompasses about 90% of the economy tallied in GDP figures, rose 1.6% in March from the same month a year ago.

  Punta Arenas cruise visitors this season totaled 56.383 with 100 calls

  

  The results of the 2014/2015 cruise season were considered 'positive' for Punta Arenas, in the extreme south of Chile, which received 100 vessel calls, of which 40 international and 60 domestic, totaling 56.383 visitors, a similar number to the previous season.

  Chilean universities establish closer links with their UK counterparts

  

  A group of the main Chilean universities travelled to the United Kingdom on an invitation from UK Universities, with the purpose of deepening links and greater opportunities for collaboration in areas such as research and innovation. This was a follow up mission to the 12 British universities that visited Chile last year to establish links with their counterparts.

  The eruption of Chile’s Calbuco volcano has resulted in a cloud of ash beginning to spread on Friday into the City of Buenos Aires while the alert in southern cities of Argentina remains.

  Chile's Calbuco volcano erupted for the first time in over 42 years on Wednesday, creating a remarkable scene of smoke plumes and ash shooting into the sky. A second eruption Wednesday night blasted red-hot rocks skyward and produced an extraordinary display of volcanic lightning.   South Chile volcano erupts: evacuation, flights cancelled, army moves in

  

  Southern Chile's Calbuco volcano erupted on Wednesday for the first time in nearly half a century, spewing a giant funnel of ash high into the sky and prompting authorities to declare a state of emergency. Officials ordered an evacuation for a 20-kilometer radius around the volcano and the Interior ministry rushed in the army to temporarily take control of the province of Llanquihue and the town of Puerto Octay.
