  Liberation Day Reception, London Gratitude for the Past, Hope for the Future

  

  Falkland Islanders and their supporters met in London on the 13th of June for the annual Liberation Day Reception. This time it was special - it marked the 35th anniversary of the war. Guest of honour was Sir Alan Duncan, just re-appointed as Foreign Office Minister with responsibility for the Falklands; this was his first outside engagement.

  Commemorations for 35th anniversary of Liberation Day held in Falklands

  

  Commemorations are being held in the Falkland Islands to mark the end of the Falklands War 35 years ago today. Liberation Day, as it is officially known in the Falklands, is commemorated every year on the 14th June to mark the end of 74 days of Argentine occupation in 1982.

  June 14th 2017 marks the 35th anniversary of the surrender of Argentinean forces and the Liberation of the Falkland Islands. The date marks the end of the short but brutal conflict that lasted 74 days, following the Argentine invasion of April 2nd 1982.

  Falklands announces arrangements for anniversary of Liberation Day 2017

  

  To mark the 35th Anniversary of the Liberation of the Falkland Islands from Argentinean occupation in 1982, Gilbert House has announced the following program for Wednesday 14 June 2017.A thanksgiving service will be held in Christ Church Cathedral commencing at 9.45 am.

  Argentina invites UK to resume Falklands question negotiations

  

  Argentina has again invited the UK to resume negotiations on the Falklands/Malvinas question, following on UN assembly resolutions, and urges an end to unilateral activities related to exploration and exploitation of renewable and non renewable natural resources in the disputed area, as well as to the British military presence in the South Atlantic.

  Falklands' increase in landing fee will help fund the Museum & National Trust

  

  The Falkland Islands government, FIG, has announced that as from the 1st July 2018, the landing fee for tourists arriving in Stanley shall increase from £21 to £25. The fee for those arriving into other destinations in the Islands shall remain at £7.50.

  Falklands: Red Cross exhumation of Argentine remains in three phases

  

  With 123 graves to be exhumed but 140 families waiting for news, the exhumation and identification of Argentine war dead in the Falklands will bring answers to some families, but not every family involved, Head of the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) and Operational Coordinator for the project to identify the remains of Argentine soldiers buried at Darwin Cemetery.

  Falklands' lawmaker confirms Canadian full support for self determination

  

  Falkland Islands lawmaker MLA Mike Summers, currently in Ottawa to meet Canadian Liberal and Conservative members of parliament, and government officials, stated that Canada has been a friend of the Falklands for many years and has always supported the right of self determination for people.

  Falklands government welcomes Red Cross team to begin humanitarian work

  

  The Falkland Islands government, FIG, has extended its welcome to Laurent Corbaz, head of the International Committee of the Red Cross, ICRC, project to identify the remains of the unknown Argentine soldiers buried at the Darwin Cemetery.
