  Argentine president promises to keep pushing ‘permanently’ for Malvinas

  

  Argentina’s claim of the Malvinas Islands only had a brief specific mention in President Cristina Fernandez de Kirchner Tuesday address to Congress where she outlined the achievements of her administration and plans for the remaining nine months of her four year mandate.

  HMS Liverpool, veteran of the Falklands conflict to be decommissioned 2012

  

  HMS Liverpool set sail out of the Mersey city for the last time as her four-day ceremonial visit drew to a close. The Type 42 Destroyer, built by Cammell Laird, was heading north for operational sea training before going on an active deployment in the Mediterranean and the Persian Gulf later in the year.

  In his reply of 19 February to my letter of the 12th, Mr. Cisneros says “the worst thing we can do is quibble and distract ourselves from the main problem”. But it is not a “quibble” to state simple facts, as I did in my letter. So I suggest we get a few facts straight – not unilateral facts, but straightforward historical facts.

  HMS Gloucester rounds up Falklands patrol with visit to South Georgia

  

  Royal Navy Portsmouth-based Type 42 destroyer HMS Gloucester, which is nearing the end of a seven-month deployment to the South Atlantic, has rounded off her Falkland Islands’ patrol with a visit to South Georgia.

  Argentine yacht calls in Stanley en route to Mar del Plata and Buenos Aires

  

  A yacht flying the Argentine flag and on route to Mar del Plata from Ushuaia called in the Falkland Islands last Friday.
  The ‘Shaman’ yacht arrived in Stanley from Tierra del Fuego on a short visit with a crew of two: the owner who is also the captain and his partner.

  Refurbished HMS York scheduled to arrive in the Falklands mid March

  

  The Royal Navy HMS York based in Portsmouth is on her way to the South Atlantic to conduct maritime security patrols. The refurbished Type 42 destroyer will spend the majority of the five-month deployment patrolling the British South Atlantic islands including the Falklands and South Georgia.
