    Some 83 minefields and suspected hazardous areas remain in the Falkland Islands with over 15.600 mines remaining, which were laid by the Argentine forces during their 74 day occupation of the South Atlantic Islands in 1982.

    HMS Liverpool, veteran of the Falklands conflict to be decommissioned 2012

    HMS Liverpool set sail out of the Mersey city for the last time as her four-day ceremonial visit drew to a close. The Type 42 Destroyer, built by Cammell Laird, was heading north for operational sea training before going on an active deployment in the Mediterranean and the Persian Gulf later in the year.

    Falklands Facts

    In his reply of 19 February to my letter of the 12th, Mr. Cisneros says “the worst thing we can do is quibble and distract ourselves from the main problem”. But it is not a “quibble” to state simple facts, as I did in my letter. So I suggest we get a few facts straight – not unilateral facts, but straightforward historical facts.
