  Falklands part of the global climate crisis, both in consequences and attempts to find solutions

  

  Falklands Conservation has called for a commitment to a net-zero greenhouse gas target for the Falkland Islands by 2050 - in line with a range of other nations from around the globe - as CEO of Falklands Conservation Esther Bertram said that without action “the Falklands are part of the global climate crisis, both in feeling the consequences and in trying to find solutions.”

  South Georgia Museum open for business; 113 cruises booked to visit the Island

  

  The Museum on South Georgia is fully open and offering all its services for the first time since its early closure during 2019-20 season. It was closed slightly early in March 2020 due to the global pandemic and remained closed the following summer and then a very small team managed to partially operate the museum for part of last (2021-22) season.

  By-catch scientific research identifies danger areas for wandering albatrosses

  

  Over half of wandering albatrosses breeding on Bird Island, South Georgia, in the sub-Antarctic, encounter fishing vessels when feeding, putting them at risk of being accidentally caught or killed in fishing gear, according to new research led by British Antarctic Survey and Birdlife International. The results will help conservation efforts for a species that is in decline.

  The autonomous Government of the Falklands Islands, FIG, Gilbert House in an official release has given its support for the idea of a map to commemorate those who lost their lives during the Liberation of the Falkland Islands in 1982. The initiative started at the time of the 25th anniversary and became reality this year.
