A detachment from the Falkland Islands Defence Force visited London last week to attend Defence and Security Equipment International 2019 show (DSEI2019) at the Excel centre.
Marking another successful year the Annual Falkland Islands Government Reception took place on Tuesday 4th June at Middle Temple, London.
The Falkland Islands Government announced on Tuesday the appointment of Richard Hyslop as the new UK Representative, succeeding Sukey Cameron MBE who retires from the post in October 2019, after 36 years of service within FIG, 29 of which were as UK Representative.
Describing it as the start of a long slow goodbye, at a reception at Government House, last week Governor Nigel Phillips paid tribute to the Falkland Islands Representative in London Sukey Cameron MBE, who will retire later in the year.
A delegation from the Falklands attended the UK Overseas Territories Joint Ministerial Council this week. This is the 20th meeting of the Leaders and Representatives from the UK Overseas Territories and Ministers of Her Majesty’s Government.

Representatives from British Overseas Territories held a meeting at 10 Downing Street hosted by Sir John Randall, the Special Advisor on Environment to the Prime Minister. The issues discussed included Brexit, international platforms, renewable energy, climate change, HMG’s Oceans and marine protected areas agenda.
The Falkland Islands Government has announced that this year's reception will be taking place on June 5th at Middle Temple Hall, The Honorable Society of the Middle Temple in London.
On six continents around the globe, the currently 53 countries of the Commonwealth marked Commonwealth Day earlier in the week. The day included messages to the Commonwealth from Her Majesty the Queen as well as the UK Prime Minister, both of which have been covered by MercoPress. However, the Falkland Islands also reaffirmed its ties to the Commonwealth over recent days both within the Islands and elsewhere in the world.
This week Falklands MLA Jan Cheek and Falklands Representative in London Sukey Cameron have been accompanied at the Conservative Conference in Manchester by Assistant Representative Michael Betts, and law student and former Falklands PR Manager Krysteen Ormond.
