  New generation Falklander elected to the Legislative Assembly in representation of Camp

  

  The Falkland Islands by-election for the Camp constituency, held on Wednesday 20 and Thursday 21 September resulted in the election of Jack Ford to office. The newly elected Member of the Legislative Assembly, Falklands autonomous internal government, told Penguin News that “personal contact and simple things like sitting in people’s kitchens and just putting the time in to listen to what they’ve got to say” made a difference.

  Falklands votes on Thursday on a single electoral constituency referendum

  

  Next Thursday, 24 September, Falklanders will be going to the polls to vote on a referendum on a Single electoral Constituency for the whole archipelago. Currently, there are two constituencies in the Falklands, Stanley the capital, which elects five of the eight members of the Legislative Assembly, and the so-called Camp, which represents the rest of the territory and sends three representatives.

  Falklands elected government rejects point blank Argentina's threatening and bullying tactics

  The Falkland Islands Executive Council considered this week two reports regarding further legislative proposals responding to the challenges posed by COVID-19. ExCo addressed the provisions put in place in the UK, including the Coronavirus Act 2020, and other laws.

  Falklands 2017/18 budget had an operating surplus of £38 million

  

  The Falkland Islands Government operating surplus of £38 million for 2017/18 was driven primarily by favourable Corporation Tax receipts. The original budgeted deficit in my view led the former Legislative Assembly to be over cautious in their demands leading to unnecessary thrift in some areas, according to MLA Roger Spink, who is head of the Government Services Portfolio of the Assembly.
