By John Fowler - At the time of going to press, so far sixteen brave or foolhardy souls have declared their candidature for the General Election. This is one more than in 2013 and may be the most ever. With an average age of less than fifty years this group is almost certainly the youngest. Gone, it would seem, are the days when only the wealthy, retired, unemployed, or possibly unemployable old were available to stand.
The Falkland Islands General Election is planned to take place on the November 9, “and the Registrar General has the necessary preparations in hand,” announced Member of Legislative Assembly Michael Poole at Thursday’s meeting of Legislative Assembly.

The Falkland Islands elected government has announced details of the parade to celebrate the birthday of Her Majesty the Queen to be held at Stanley's Victory Green on Thursday 21st April 2016. The parade will form up at Victory Green at 10.20 hours and His Excellency the Governor will arrive at 10.30 hours.
In rare coincidence with the International Women´s Day, the Falkland Islands celebrated ”Tussac Tuesday'', the Poa flabellata grass, one of the most valuable native plants to farmers and wildlife in the Islands. It is palatable all year round and can provide good supplementary forage for cattle, horses and sheep.
The Falkland Islands will be marking the anniversary of the liberation of the Islands from Argentine occupation with a vast program scheduled for Sunday 14, June, 2015, in the capital Stanley.<
The program includes a religious service, a ceremony at Liberation Monument and later a reception hosted by Falkland Islands governor Colin Roberts. MLA Ian Hansen will be presented with the South Atlantic Medal on behalf of all Islanders.
On Tuesday 21 April the Falkland Islands will be holding a parade to celebrate the birthday of Queen Elizabeth. Contingents from the Royal Navy, Army, Royal Air Force and the Falklands' Defense Force will form at Stanley's Victory Green, reports Gilbert House, seat of the Falklands' elected Legislative Assembly.
Gilbert House, seat of the Falkland Islands elected government has released the program arranged for Monday 8th December 2014 to commemorate the victory of the Naval engagements of 8th December 1914, on which day 6 British sailors lost their lives and a number of others died later from injuries received during the battle. 2,260 German sailors also lost their lives.
