  Falklands using drones to create fine scale models of minefields

  

  The minefields around the Falkland Islands capital, Stanley, dating back to the South Atlantic conflict, have remained largely untouched for most of nearly 35 years, due to the restrictions in place around access to the minefields. Over this time, they have become a haven for Falkland’s wildlife.

  Falklands' patrol HMS Clyde visits South Georgia on fishery protection

  

  The Falkland Islands patrol ship HMS Clyde is on her usual patrol area during the austral summer which is South Georgia, 700 miles away. The remote archipelago is as far south of the Equator as Newcastle upon Tyne is north of the invisible line around the globe – but without the benefit of the Gulf Stream, endures far less clement weather.

  Stamps on centenary of the end of WWI issued by BAT and SG

  

  The British Antarctic Territory and South Georgia and South Sandwich Islands marked the centenary of the end of World War I with new stamps. The issue honors members of Ernest Shackleton’s 1914-16 Imperial Trans-Antarctic Expedition who served in the war.
