    Malcorra regrets no previous warning on the Falklands' military exercises

     “The British decision definitively took us by surprise; there was no previous warning which evidently is not good. It does not contribute to confidence building”

    Argentine foreign minister Susana Malcorra said that the recent diplomatic row with the UK over military exercises in the Falkland Islands shows that the consequences of the war persist and reiterated her disappointment with London for not giving the Argentine government any previous warning.

    Argentine Tierra del Fuego governor Rosana Bertone joined the group of protestors condemning the military exercises, including launching of Rapier missiles, announced by British forces stationed in the Falkland Islands, and accused London of acting in “bad faith” just a few days after releasing a joint statement with Argentina to improve relations.

    Spain asks Latin American countries support for Gibraltar's sovereignty claim

    Spain has, for the first time ever, asked the annual Iberian-Latin American Summit for its support on the Gibraltar sovereignty question. It has asked the Colombian Government, as the organizers of the 28/29 October event to circulate the text for the summit to adopt a resolution for the resumption of sovereignty talks over Gibraltar.

    Uruguayan scientists on HMS Protector en route to Antarctica for a joint research project

    Two Uruguayan young scientists are on board Ice Patrol HMS Protector en route to the Falkland Islands and Antarctica and will be participating in a research program on human impact on the Antarctic marine environment including pollution mainly by plastic made products. Federico Weinstein and Carolina Rodríguez belong to the Faculty of Sciences and represent the resumption of long standing links between the Ice Patrol and Montevideo.

    Maldives quits the Commonwealth over rule of the law and democracy dispute

    Foreign Secretary Boris Johnson said the UK is disappointed that the Maldives Government has decided to withdraw from the Commonwealth.

    Maldives ministry of foreign affairs announced on Friday its decision to quit the Commonwealth of Nations after the organization issued a warning to the country that it could be suspended because of its failure to promote the rule of the law and democracy.

    The European Union and Mercosur could strike a free trade deal within two years, according to Argentina’s Commerce Secretary Miguel Braun. After Brexit, Mercosur would be open to a separate trade deal with the UK. Trade negotiations between the EU and Mercosur nations are still on track, despite the UK’s decision to leave the bloc and uncertainty over the future of the EU’s other major trade agreements – TTIP and CETA.

    Travelers shocked at UK airports: £=€ 99 cents; Lord King says “weak pound is positive”

    Lord King said that for the UK slowing down economy “the fall in sterling is a welcome change”

    Many travelers buying foreign currency at the UK's airports are now receiving less than one Euro to the pound, reports the BBC. The continued fall in sterling's value means that the average rate available at 17 airport bureaux de change is now just 99 euro cents to the pound. The worst rate is currently 88 Euro cents at Moneycorp at Southampton airport and the best is €1.06 from the Change Group at Glasgow Prestwick.
