    Discussions between the UK and Argentina in 1980 referred to the Falkland Islands dispute have been reconstructed by an Argentine researcher bringing together recent documents from Britain's National Archives and the memoirs of two prominent members of the military government of the time in Buenos Aires, Finance minister Jose Alfredo Martinez de Hoz and the ambassador in the UK, Carlos Ortiz de Rozas.

    UK strongly supports innovative solutions for the Chilean mining sector

    The Commercial Section of the British Embassy Santiago supported the Small and Medium Scale Mining Conference, Medmin, held on Monday 8 August in Santiago.

    The British Embassy in Chile participated at the mining conference Medmin to strengthen the importance of British innovative solutions for the mining sector in a country which is highly dependent on minerals and is the world's leading exporter of copper.

    UK health officials call on university students to vaccinate against Meningitis

    Young people going on to university or college are particularly at risk of meningitis and septicemia because they mix with so many other students

    Health officials in the United Kingdom have reported a progressive increase in cases of the deadly bacterium, Meningitis W (MenW), prompting calls for university students to get vaccinated. Cases of MenW have been increasing year-on-year, from 22 cases in 2009 to over 200 cases in the past 12 months, according to Public Health England.

    Chile hosts international conference of teachers of English as a foreign language

    The British Chilean Chamber of Commerce promoted tools offered by member companies of its Education Committee.

    The 14th International Conference of IATEFL (International Association of Teachers of English as a Foreign Language) was held in Santiago de Chile on 22 and 23 July at Universidad San Sebastian with the attendance of 800 current and future teachers of English.

    Chevening Scholarships open to applications from Argentina

    The scholarship offers financial support to study for a master’s degree at any UK university and to become part of an influential global network of 46,000 alumni.

    The United Kingdom Chevening Secretariat is accepting applications for 2017/2018 Chevening Scholarships from 8 August until 8 November 2016, announced the British Embassy in Buenos Aires. Chevening Scholarships are awarded to individuals with demonstrable leadership potential who also have strong academic backgrounds.

    Falklands/Malvinas: Malcorra confirms new dialogue with UK in a raft of issues

    Falklands air links and oil talks between UK and Argentina confirmed by Malcorra

    Malcorra in a press conference confirmed that she discussed the issues of air links and oil with Foreign Secretary Philip Hammond in London

    Foreign minister Susana Malcorra confirmed on Wednesday that Argentina and the United Kingdom are holding talks, “moving to a more productive phase” which includes making progress towards new “air links between the Falkland Islands and third countries” plus the removal of “restrictive hydrocarbons measures”.
