  Ushuaia celebrates 132th anniversary with a jumbo paella for 12.000 people

  

  Ushuaia in the extreme south of Argentina and capital of Tierra del Fuego province celebrated on 12 October the 132th anniversary of its foundation with several activities including a jumbo popular paella for 12.000 people. The gastronomic display was sponsored by city authorities and New San, a maquila group which assembles electronic products in Tierra del Fuego under a promotion system implemented by Buenos Aires.

  Argentina considering phasing out Patagonian ports' fisheries exports

  

  The Argentine government is considering phasing out the incentives which benefit Patagonian ports fisheries exports. The announcement was made by Jorge Metz, Ports Under Secretary during a recent visit to Bahía Blanca although pointing out the issue was still under consideration by the cabinet chief office, but some advances would be made public in a month's time.

  Night of fire and violence in Ushuaia as protestors are evicted from Government House grounds

  

  Ushuaia suffered a night of violence, tear and pepper gas and fire when riot police dislodged an 80-day protest camp and tents of striking teachers and government employees next to Tierra del Fuego Government House. Seven people were reported injured including a policeman and a fireman, when tents were set on fire, and unions claimed it was a savage and brutal display of government repression

  Ushuaia has received 58.000 cruise visitors since 15 September; “Queen Mary” expected next week

  

  An estimated 58,000 cruise visitors have landed in Ushuaia, extreme south of Argentina during the current 2015/16 season which took off last 15 September, according to the Tierra del Fuego Tourism Institute. The largest number was concentrated in January, with an estimated 25.000, and this weekend promises to be equally busy with several vessels calling with 10.000 passengers.
