    Weaker sterling helps boost the number of visitors to UK, up 7% in June

    The big increase in visitors from North America, from 483,000 in June of 2016 to  650,000 this year, was “clearly buoyed by the sharp drop of the pound”

    The number of visitors to the UK rose to 3.5 million in June, up 7% from the same month last year, according to official figures. The number of visitors from North America shot up by 34%, and visitors overall spent £2.2bn, a rise of 2%, the UK Office of National Statistics, ONS, said.

    Air France-KLM buys 31% of Virgin Airlines; Delta retains 49%

    Virgin Group's share will fall from 51% to 20%, while Delta will retain 49%. Sir Richard said he would remain “very much involved” after the deal.

    Weak pound helps to boost tourists visiting UK by 21.1%, in first quarter

     Overall there were a record 8.3 million visits in the quarter. The visitors spent £4.4bn while in the country, also a record amount.

    The weakness of sterling was behind a surge in the number of tourists visiting the UK in the first three months of 2017, according to the Office for National Statistics (ONS). The number of holidaymakers coming to the UK rose by 21.1%, although the number of business visitors declined.
