  Falklands' increase in landing fee will help fund the Museum & National Trust

  

  The Falkland Islands government, FIG, has announced that as from the 1st July 2018, the landing fee for tourists arriving in Stanley shall increase from £21 to £25. The fee for those arriving into other destinations in the Islands shall remain at £7.50.

  British Airways says “human error” led to travel chaos for 75.000 passengers

  

  The boss of British Airways' parent company says that human error caused an IT meltdown that led to travel chaos for 75,000 passengers. Willie Walsh. chief executive of IAG, said an engineer disconnected a power supply, with the major damage caused by a surge when it was reconnected. He said there would now be an independent investigation “to learn from the experience”.

  British Airways disruption as it tries to overcome impact of worldwide computer system crash

  

  British Airways passengers were facing on Sunday a third day of disruption at Heathrow as the airline deals with the impact of a worldwide computer system crash. BA says it aims to operate a full long-haul schedule and a “high proportion” of short-haul services after the outage caused by a power failure.

  Falklands/UK airbridge has reduced flight time with re-route via Cape Verde

  

  The United Kingdom MoD (Ministry of Defense) announced on Thursday that plans were in place to trial the Falkland Islands Airbridge flight via Sal, Cape Verde, on a temporary basis which would result in a shorter overall flight time and improved passenger experience.

  IAATO appoints New Executive Director, Dr Damon Stanwell-Smith

  

  The International Association of Antarctica Tour Operators (IAATO) has announced the appointment of Dr. Damon Stanwell-Smith as Executive Director. Damon will lead the Secretariat and work with IAATO’s Executive Committee to ensure the association is functioning according to its mission of safe, environmentally responsible private-sector travel to Antarctica.

  Members of the International Association of Antarctica Tour Operators (IAATO) have agreed to develop a science based conservation plan for the Antarctic Peninsula in collaboration with the Scientific Committee on Antarctic Research (SCAR) to support decision making for tourism management.

  Qatar Airways, the FIFA official airline through the year 2022

  

  A new partnership between FIFA and the Qatar state-run airlines was announced. As part of the agreement Qatar Airways will be an Official Partner and the Official Airline for the world soccer body. The 2017 and 2021 Confederation Cups and the 2018 and 2022 World Cups are included in the partnership. The 2022 World Cup will be hosted by Qatar.

  Punta Arenas 2016/17 cruise season: 99 calls and 67.560 visitors

  

  Punta Arenas, extreme south of Chile received 73.358 visitors during the last 2016/17 cruise season ending in April, of which 67.560 (92.1%) arrived in international vessels and 7.9% in domestic vessels.
