  Largest cocaine bust in Germany, 4.500 kilos, was shipped from Montevideo

  

  German customs have confiscated a record 4.5 metric tons (5 short tons) of cocaine in a shipping container in Hamburg, with a street value of nearly €1 billion (US$ 1.1 billion). The drugs were discovered two weeks ago during a routine check, resulting in the largest cocaine shipment ever seized in Germany.

  Uruguayan actor George Hilton dies in Rome, aged 85

  

  George Hilton, the Uruguayan stage actor who starred in Argentine movies in the 1950s and 1960s and in European productions later on in his career, passed away in Rome on Sunday, his family posted on Facebook. No cause of death was given. He was 85.

  Uruguayan lawmaker Jaime Trobo, a good friend of the Falklands' people and who visited the Islands in several occasions died this week at the age of 62 after a long battle with cancer. Trobo was first elected a Montevideo Councillor for the National Party in 1984, when Uruguay emerged from eleven years of military dictatorship.

  Montevideo gas workers lift strike after government's announcements

  

  As the Uruguayan state has vowed to take over the administration of departing Montevideo cooking gas suppliers Montevideo Gas and Conecta and jobs have been secured, the UOEGAS workers' union has agreed to end the strike, starting this Friday.
