  Banning trawling for cuttlefish catching triggers the “large squid war” in Chile

  

  Chile is in the midst of what has become to be known as the “cuttlefish or large squid war”, between industry and artisanal fishermen and the government's intention of protection and conservation of the species. The Chilean Congress recently passed a bill regulating the catch of the giant squid and specifically banning trawling, with perpetrators facing fines of some US$ 38.000.

  Cruise vessels allowed to operate along the Chilean coast smaller ports

  

  Chilean cruise operators and travel agencies have praised a bill approved by Congress, the Coastal traffic law, which allows cruise vessels with a 400 passenger capacity or more, and even smaller if there are no Chilean similar vessels, to sail along the country's ports.

  Bomb blast in downtown Santiago de Chile injures five people

  

  A blast at a bus stop that wounded five people in the centre of the Chilean capital on Friday was described as a “terrorist act” by the government. A Venezuelan couple was hospitalized with facial and leg injuries after handling a package containing the device at the bus stop on the busy Vicuna Mackenna Avenue, authorities said.

  HMS Montrose en route to Bahrain calls at Easter Island
