    Islands Games in Guernsey postponed because of coronavirus

    The IIGA said it will work with the organizers of Guernsey 2021 and Orkney 2023, the next hosts, to find a new date.

    Next year's Island Games in Guernsey have been postponed because of coronavirus, the International Island Games Association has confirmed. The event, which was due to be held between 3-9 July 2021, has not been canceled altogether but a decision is yet to be made on when it will now take place.

    Falklands announce COVID-19 relief donation for Uruguayan charity

    CEPRODIH is a non profit association which assists vulnerable people in situations where they are at risk of harm, particularly women and children

    The Falkland Islands Government has confirmed that, as part of its efforts to contribute to the worldwide Coronavirus relief response, it has made a donation of £5,000 to Centro de Promoción por la Dignidad Humana (CEPRODIH), based in Uruguay.

    Falkland Islands votes to remain a two electoral constituency

    Voters could decide between the status quo, the Falklands retaining two constituencies, or alternatively voting for it to become one single constituency

    The Falkland Islands Referendum held on Thursday, resulted in a defeat for the concept of a single constituency. Neither of the two current constituencies Camp or Stanley, garnered the two thirds support for a single constituency.

    Falklands announces support schemes for the tourism industry

    Tourism is an increasingly important sector for the Falkland Islands: prior to Covid-19, the sector generated approximately £16 million in annual sales.

    The Falkland Islands Government provided details on Wednesday of a range of support schemes designed specifically to mitigate the effects of the global pandemic on tourism businesses, operators, and employees over the next twelve months, as well as prepare the sector to take advantage of renewed demand in 2021 and beyond.

    Falklands Committee on the 40th anniversary of the Liberation of the Islands

    Ex MLA Phyl Rendell will chair the Committee for the 40th Anniversary of the Liberation of the Falkland Islands

    The Falkland Islands Government is pleased to announce the establishment of a Committee for the 40th Anniversary of the Liberation of the Falkland Islands. Chaired by former MLA Phyl Rendell, the Committee will be responsible for agreeing the framework for what will be a year-long programme of celebration and commemoration in 2022. The Committee will ensure that events and activities are coordinated and that everyone across the Falkland Islands – as well as friends overseas – can contribute.

    Falklands votes on Thursday on a single electoral constituency referendum

    The Single Constituency Bill would amend Falklands' Constitution to replace two constituencies with one and voters would elect all eight Members of the Assembly.

    Next Thursday, 24 September, Falklanders will be going to the polls to vote on a referendum on a Single electoral Constituency for the whole archipelago. Currently, there are two constituencies in the Falklands, Stanley the capital, which elects five of the eight members of the Legislative Assembly, and the so-called Camp, which represents the rest of the territory and sends three representatives.
