Argentine Navy takes delivery of brand new patrol vessel in France

The Argentine Navy last week took delivery in Concarneau, France, of the brand new Ocean Patrol Vessel (OPV) 87 ARA Piedrabuena which is expected to arrive at its future home base in Mar del Plata to start operating along with her sister ship of the Gowind class, the ARA Bouchard, it was reported.

Argentina finished Antarctica Summer Campaign without Covid-19 cases

Argentina's 2020/2021 Antarctic campaign successfully finished last week after the arrival of the Argentine Navy icebreaker “Almirante Irízar” at the port of Buenos Aires without registering any positive case of Covid-19 among its 392 crew members, military and scientists.

Falklands' incursion and landing by an Argentine submarine at Cow Bay in October 1966

A top-secret operation from the Argentine navy, which apparently took place in October 1966, was revealed by an Argentine newspaper, El Diario Nuevo Día, from the province of Santa Cruz. The operation took place when the submarine ARA Santiago del Estero, emerged at Cow Bay, in East Falkland, north of Stanley, and had a couple of teams land and survey the beach and surrounding areas with most probably a future invasion purpose.

Icebreaker “donation” for Argentina? Australia's “Aurora Australis”?

According to reports in the Argentine media next November the Australian flagged icebreaker Aurora Australis will be docking in Ushuaia, Tierra del Fuego, and then head for Buenos Aires where, allegedly, she will be incorporated to the Argentine navy fleet and will be participating next to ARA Almirante Irizar in the 2020/21 Antarctica campaign.

Argentine navy second state of the art OPV, launched in France

The Argentine navy second Ocean Patrol Vessel, OPV, named ARA Piedrabuena was launched last week in Piriou’s shipyards in Concarneau, France. This is the second of four OPVs acquired by the Argentine navy.

Argentine patrol arrests Chinese jigger illegally fishing in the county's EEZ

The Argentine Navy sighted and arrested early Monday a Chinese jigger which was illegally operating in the country's EEZ. The report says that the ocean patrol vessel ARA Bouchard detected the Hong Pu 16, fishing with its Automatic Identification System turned off, but full lights on to catch squid.

Argentina receives first OPV of four purchased from France

On Wednesday the latest incorporation to the Argentine navy will be docking in Buenos Aires, the OPV ARA Bouchard. The Ocean Patrol Vessel is the first of four to be delivered by the Naval Group shipyard, purchased from France by Argentina, and which left Toulon two weeks ago.
