  Jamie Bowden starts duties as new British Ambassador to Chile

  

  Jamie Bowden has been appointed Her Majesty’s Ambassador to the Republic of Chile in succession to Ms Fiona Clouder. Mr Jamie Bowden, called on the Acting Director of Protocol of the Chilean Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Mr Patricio Guesalaga, during his first day Ambassador to Chile.

  Chile Day in London, 6-7 September, to promote growth and investments

  

  Chile Day in London will take place on 6-7 September; it was announced at an event in the British embassy in Santiago de Chile. The initiative has grown steadily since its year of inception in 2011 and “this year promises to be a new focus, at an important time for both our countries”, said ambassador Fiona Clouder.

  Smog emergency in Santiago de Chile for the fifth day running

  

  Santiago de Chile is under a smog emergency for the fifth day running because of the poor quality of air, as reported by the local authorities of the Chilean capital. For this reason 40% of vehicles without catalytic convertors, and with plate numbers ending in 0,1,2 or 3 are banned from circulating in the city. Likewise motorcycles manufactured before 2002 and with plate numbers ending in 0 and 1.

  Colombia invited to join OECD; third Latin American member with Mexico and Chile

  

  The Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD) announced on Friday that Colombia would be officially invited to join the group. The Paris-based economic organization was founded in 1961 and has traditionally included industrialized nations, though in recent years it has extended its membership to emerging economies.
