    Premier Oil refinancing and extending debt repayment dates

    “We owe the banks a lot of money and therefore they are obviously going to want to approve some of that future investment,” Premier Oil CEO Tony Durrant said.

    Premier Oil has pushed back its refinancing deal to the first quarter of 2017 but said lenders had largely agreed to new terms, including extending debt repayment dates in exchange for some control over which projects the company can invest in.

    Falklands to meet Red Cross in Geneva on DNA identification of Argentine combatants buried in Darwin

    The Falklands government announced on Friday that MLA Mike Summers will be attending a meeting in Geneva, chaired by the Red Cross to forward agreements for DNA identification of Argentine combatants buried in Darwin. A follow up meeting in London for the signing of the agreements is scheduled, which will also include MLA Phyl Rendell, and to advance in other issues related to the September UK/Argentina joint statement referred to additional flights and fisheries scientific data exchange.

    Falklands' government first quarter surplus jumps to £6.407 million

    The Falkland Islands government numbers are looking brighter than forecasted: for the first three months of the financial year (July –September), the government is showing an actual surplus of £6.407 million, compared to a estimated surplus of £2.211 million.

    In a colorful opening ceremony in the Legislative Chamber at the Parliament Buildings in Victoria, British Columbia, Canada, over 60 young participants representing CPA Branches in eight of the nine CPA Regions – Africa; Asia; Australia; British Islands and Mediterranean; Caribbean, Americas and Atlantic; Canada; India; Pacific – came together for the start of a week long program of events. The Falkland Islands are represented by Jody Aldridge and Gemma Finn.

    Falklands' trip for university students winners of regional competition

    The Government of the Falkland Islands and the British Embassies in Uruguay, Brazil and Chile invited university students to participate in this regional competition to win the chance to visit the Falklands for a week, all expenses paid.

    HMS Protector opens 2016/17 season in South Georgia surveying 160 sq miles of seabed

    Having spent last Antarctic summer celebrating the deeds of one British polar hero, the crew of Royal Navy icebreaker HMS Protector have opened the 2016-17 survey season honoring his rival. A century after Sir Ernest Shackleton landed at King Haakon Bay on South Georgia in a makeshift lifeboat – the James Caird – Protector entered the same fjord and sent her hi-tech survey launch – the James Caird IV – close to the identical spot.

Governor Colin Roberts CVO, Parliamentary Under Secretary of State for Defense personnel, veterans and reserves MP Mark Lancaster, Commander British Forces Commodore Darren Bone, RN, Members of the Legislative Assembly, visiting and resident Veterans, together with Senior Officers of the Armed Services will be attending this Service.

    Falklands initiative to promote safeguarding children, supported by OTs

    Falklands were represented at the JMC by MLA Roger Edwards and Sukey Cameron MBE, head of the Falklands government office in London.

    An initiative from the Falkland Islands to promote more effective collaboration between the British Overseas Territories for safeguarding children was opened for signature at the recent Joint Ministerial Council meeting held at Lancaster House in London.

    Ilex argentinus immigrates into Falklands waters seasonally and is the largest squid resource in the Soutwest Atlantic.

    Three decades ago, on 29 October 1986 a Proclamation declaring the Interim Falklands Conservation and Management Zone was signed by then Governor Jewkes, which helped to transform the Islands economy. The anniversary has been marked by several events, and this week was the turn for a scientific approach on how and why the waters around the Falklands are so rich in marine life.
