    UK and Overseas Territories confirmed the principle of equal rights and self-determination plus OTs' right to develop their potential, agreed on the creation of a UK-Territories Joint Ministerial Council on European exit negotiations, and praised the recent UK-Argentina statement on the lifting of trade restrictions on the Falkland Islands.

    Falklands initiative to promote safeguarding children, supported by OTs

    Falklands were represented at the JMC by MLA Roger Edwards and Sukey Cameron MBE, head of the Falklands government office in London.

    An initiative from the Falkland Islands to promote more effective collaboration between the British Overseas Territories for safeguarding children was opened for signature at the recent Joint Ministerial Council meeting held at Lancaster House in London.

    The Royal Falkland Islands Police Force (RFIP) is celebrating its birthday having been first established on the 1st November 170 years ago in 1846 with the appointment of Mr Francis Parry as Chief Constable. The Constables Ordinance of 1846, which was first enacted by the Colonies Legislative Council on 27th October of that same year, brought about the birth of an establishment that has remained at the service of the public ever since.

    Argentine foreign minister Susana Malcorra thanked countries attending the XXV IberoAmerian summit in Colombia for their support to Argentina's sovereignty claim over the Falklands/Malvinas Islands and the compliance of UN resolutions calling for dialogue with the UK. A brief release from the Argentine ministry said “we are grateful for the support we have received from the IberoAmerican space on the Malvinas question”.

    A youth football squad from the Falkland Islands is currently touring Punta Arenas, competing in a week long tournament against teams from the local area. The Falkland Islands Youth football team is currently in Chile this week training and competing in a week-long tournament against local sides.

    Argentine private aircraft makes a direct Rio Gallegos flight to the Falklands for a four-day visit

    Four Argentines who flew straight across from Rio Gallegos to Stanley airport in a private Beechcraft 55 and spent four days in the Falkland Islands, had only words of praise for the way they were considered and treated during the two months previous paperwork and when they finally reached their goal of visiting battle fields, cemeteries to honor the 1982 combatants who never returned.
