    Border conflict erupts between Chile and Peru over a 10 acre wedge of land

    Humala said the move aimed to spur development in the La Yarada-Los Palos area on the border with Chile and improve living conditions for its inhabitants.

    The fragile relations between neighboring Chile and Peru appeared to unwind further Saturday, after Peruvian President Ollanta Humala officially recognized an administrative district in a disputed border area. The Chilean government promptly sent a protest note to Peru “strongly” rejecting the law because it concerns “unquestionably” Chilean territory.

    US hedge fund threatens to sue Peru on defaulted bonds from 1980s

    Peru  defaulted on $5.1bn in bonds in the 1980s. Gramercy has threatened to bring a claim under a tribunal system established in a US-Peruvian trade deal.

    A US hedge fund has threatened to sue Peru over bonds issued by the country's former military regime. Connecticut-based hedge fund Gramercy purchased the defaulted debt at a discount in 2008 after other bondholders failed to reach a deal.

    Giant 1.000 kilos manta ray caught by Peruvian fishermen

    A giant manta ray of approximately 1.000 kilos was caught by Peruvian unsuspecting fishermen operating at La Cruz inlet, north of the country close to the Ecuadorian border, according to Lima media. Erick Cruz Guerrero, 22 was the young crew member that finally captured the giant manta ray which had to be unloaded with a crane.

    Peruvian president after new prime minister: seven in less than four years

    Seventy-two lawmakers voted to remove Prime Minister Ana Jara from office after less than a year in the job, while 42 opposed the move and two abstained.

    Peru's prime minister was ousted by Congress in a vote of no confidence late on Monday following allegations of spying on her opponents, delivering a blow to President Ollanta Humala who will now have to form another new government. The new PM will be Humala's seventh in less than four years.

    Peru to withdraw ambassador from Chile because of alleged military espionage

    “This is a matter which falls exclusively to Peru,” Chile's foreign minister, Heraldo Munoz, said of Lima's decision to pull its ambassador out.

    Peru said it was withdrawing its ambassador from Chile, amid an intensifying diplomatic spat that was sparked by accusations of military espionage. The Peruvian government is prosecuting two non-commissioned officers in its navy and investigating a third for allegedly spying for neighboring Chile.
