
The close historic and farming links between the Falkland Islands and the Magallanes Region, were underlined in a recent article by Punta Arenas researcher Silvestre Fugellie dedicated to sheep farming, the 'golden fleece' that changed the economy of those barren lands in the extreme south of Chile over a century ago.

The Falkland Islands experience in implementing energy projects, both conventional and wind farms was shared with the attendants of the recent RELACCX (Renewable Energy Latin America and Caribbean Conference and Exhibition) event, held in Puerto Rico, and where Falklands' engineer Glenn Ross was an invited speaker.

The extreme south region of Chile, Magallanes continues with record low unemployment, less than half the national average, according to the official stats for the mobile June/August quarter. While the Chilean national average unemployment is 6.7% in Magallanes it stands at 3.3%, and 0.8 percentage points less than a year ago.
