  Magallanes region in the extreme south of Chile, was the most dynamic of the country's economy during the third quarter of the year according to the latest release from the local stats office, INE. This contrasts with the rest of the fourteen regions of the country of which six, reported negative growth.

  Punta Arenas expects 60.000 visitors this cruise season

  

  An estimated 60.000 visitors will be landing in Punta Arenas, extreme south of Chile during this 2014/2015 cruise season, according to the manager of the Austral Ports Company, Ignacio Covacevich Fugellie. This includes 54.000 from international vessels and another 6.500 of Chilean flagged cruises on domestic tours.

  Falklands fourteen young footballers off to Chile for ‘South of the World Cup’

  

  Fourteen young footballers from the Falkland Islands will fly to Punta Arenas, Chile with their coaches on Saturday to take part in the Unifying Continents at the South of the World Cup.The Falklands is entering two teams in the tournament that also includes teams Colegio Aleman, Colegio Cruz del Sur, Colegio Britanico, Leumag, and two teams from Club Deportivo Victoria.

  USS Constellation carrier towed to the scrapyard along the coast of South America

  

  The United States aircraft carrier Constellation, which spent most of its nearly 42 years of service operating out of San Diego Bay is being towed along the South American Atlantic coast on its way to be scrapped in Texas. This week it was sighted in the extreme south of Chile, Punta Arenas as it crossed to the Atlantic.

  Magallanes region in extreme south Chile has the lowest unemployment rate

  

  The extreme south region of Chile, Magallanes continues with record low unemployment, less than half the national average, according to the official stats for the mobile June/August quarter. While the Chilean national average unemployment is 6.7% in Magallanes it stands at 3.3%, and 0.8 percentage points less than a year ago.

  Magallanes Region economy (in the extreme south of Chile) received an injection of 220 million dollars from the 630.000 tourists that arrived by air, sea or land to the area during 2013, according to the latest release form the regional Tourism Office (Sernatur).
