In the early mornings of Saturday and Sunday, the thermometer is expected to register 10 Celsius below zero, with the wind factor even lower.

  Unemployment in Magallanes drops slightly to 3.8% in April/June quarter

  

  Unemployment in Magallanes region, extreme south of Chile, was 3.8% in the second quarter of the year, which represents a 1.5 percentage point increase over the last twelve months despite a slight fall of 0.2 percentage point compared to the previous quarter (March/May) of 2015, according to the latest release from the INE stats office.

  Punta Arenas rescues semi-submersible rig stranded in the port's muddy bottom

  

  A semi-submersible rig of Chinese origin commissioned to Total and which grounded 200 meters from the coast in Punta Arenas following strong winds and tides that let it lose from its moorings in the port, has been rescued on the high tide. Apparently the huge vessel has not suffered major 'visible damages', reports La Prensa Austral.

  Punta Arenas fishing industry complains of a sharp fall in catches and landings

  

  The fishing industry in Punta Arenas, extreme south of Chile, is going through a serious recession --30% fall in landings-- which is not only impacting the activity of the four main companies, with lesser jobs, but also port operations and the price of freight as volumes are smaller, warned this week Enrique Gutierrez, General Manager of Pesca Chile.

  Unemployment in Magallanes Region, extreme south of Chile climbed to 4.4% in the February-April period, which represents an increase of 2.3 percentage points over the same period a year ago, according to the latest release from the INE stats office.
