  Australia enforces low sulfur fuel regulations: Carnival cruise fined

  

  Australia’s Environment Protection Authority (EPA) has fined Carnival PLC US$15,000 after one of its P&O Cruises ships, the Pacific Jewel, breached new low sulfur fuel regulations in Sydney Harbor. A fuel sample taken by the ship’s crew and provided to EPA officers while the ship was berthed at the White Bay Cruise Terminal on February 26, 2016 had a sulfur level of 0.293%, nearly three times the 0.1% sulfur limit.

  World health experts call for Rio Olympics to be postponed or moved given Zika spread fears

  

  More than 100 health experts have called for the Rio Olympic Games to be postponed or moved because of fears that the event could speed up the spread of the Zika virus around the world, according to a public letter published online.

  British tourists target holidays in Spain and Portugal instead of Egypt and Tunisia

  

  More British tourists are set to spend their summer holidays in Spain and Portugal as demand for sunshine breaks in Tunisia and Egypt declines over fears of violence, travel agents said. Trade body the Association of British Travel Agents (ABTA) cited figures showing that bookings to Portugal were up 29%, while Spain was up 26% and Cyprus increased 18% compared to last year.

  WHO public health advice regarding the Olympics and Zika virus

  

  Based on current assessment, cancelling or changing the location of the 2016 Olympics will not significantly alter the international spread of Zika virus. Brazil is one of almost 60 countries and territories which to-date report continuing transmission of Zika by mosquitoes. People continue to travel between these countries and territories for a variety of reasons. The best way to reduce risk of disease is to follow public health travel advice.

  Falklands considering review of response protocol to visitors' misbehavior actions

  

  The Falkland Islands government is considering a review of the response protocol to actions committed by visitors who ignore Islands' rules or are involved in misbehavior, harassing locals as happened this month, reports the Penguin News in this Friday's edition. The different branches of Falklands' government act coordinately and effectively, in such cases and admit it usually involves a minority of Argentine visitors.

  St Helena celebrates the new airport on her 514th discovery anniversary

  

  2016 St Helena’s Day celebrations were this year held on Friday 20 May 2016, and were reckoned by all to be a great success. Once again organized by New Horizons and held in lower Jamestown, traditional activities and stalls were arranged in both the Mule Yard and along the Seafront area.

  British Airways direct flights Santiago/London from next January

  

  British Airways is launching the only direct flight between London and Santiago in Chile from January 3, 2017. Santiago will become the airline’s lengthiest long-haul route, taking 14 hours 40 minutes, nearly an hour more than the current longest flight of 13 hours 50 minutes service to Buenos Aires.

  Chile celebrates best cruise season in seven years

  

  Chile reports that this last cruise season (October 2015/April 2016), has been the best in seven years, according to the Southern Cone Ports Corporation, with a 47% increase in the number of vessel calls and 43% in landed passengers, compared to 2014/2015.
