Twenty three newly elected Senators took the oath of office in Argentina on Wednesday morning including ex presidents Carlos Menem, Adolfo Rodriguez Saa and Cristina Fernandez. The midterm election to renew a third of the Upper house was held in October and the new legislature will formally begin 10 December.

President Mauricio Macri on Friday ordered an inquiry to ‘know the truth’ about what happened to Argentina's missing submarine, ARA San Juan, which disappeared with the loss of its 44 crew. Families of crew lost in the Argentine ARA San Juan submarine have been told their loved ones “are all dead” after an explosion on the day the vessel disappeared, according to reports. Family members claimed on Thursday they had already received phone calls from Navy officials telling them the entire crew had perished in a blast, believed to have taken place between 180m and 900m below the surface.
