    Mexico looking at Argentina and Brazil as an alternative for US corn

    Agriculture Secretary Calzada will be travelling to Argentina and Brazil and said that the Mexican government could explore quotas and changing the tariff regime

    Mexican politicians are saber rattling against the US agriculture sector, and it looks like Argentina is ready to fill the gap. In effect Mexico's agriculture minister said on Thursday he will lead a business delegation to Argentina and Brazil to explore buying yellow corn, part of a drive to lessen Mexico's U.S. dependence given uncertainty over President Donald Trump's trade policies.

    Argentine foreign minister Susana Malcorra met on Thursday in Bonn with US Secretary of State Rex Tillerson and one of the issues addressed was organizing the coming summit of presidents Mauricio Macri and Donald Trump, following the invitation extended to the Argentine leader by the US president on Wednesday's phone exchange.

    More than 1000 people took part last week of the local edition of “Harry Potter Book Night” – a global initiative by Bloomsbury Publishing designed to celebrate the magical world created by British author J.     United States president Donald Trump was on the phone on Wednesday afternoon to speak with his Argentine peer Mauricio Macri. The five minute talk, according to Argentine sources, addressed the bilateral agenda, the Venezuela situation and an invitation for Macri to visit US sometime in April/June.

    Consumer prices in greater Buenos Aires rose 1.3% in January over the previous month, Argentina's official Indec statistics agency announced, far below market expectations and in line with the central bank's annual target. January's reading was slightly above 1.2% inflation in December.

    Argentine president Mauricio Macri and US vice-president Mike Pence spoke last Friday on the phone and agreed that the two countries need to redouble their efforts to enhance job creation and economic growth. The vice-president also noted that president Donald Trump looks forward to speaking with president Macri.
