    Falklands/Malvinas dispute: Malcorra calls for an “open dialogue” with UK

    “The Argentine government reiterates once again its full readiness to open dialogue with the UK and to strengthen the bilateral relationship between both countries”

    Foreign Minister Susana Malcorra called on the United Kingdom to engage in “open dialogue” on the Falklands/Malvinas islands sovereignty dispute in an open letter sent to the UK government, which President Mauricio Macri’s administration hopes can further improve relations between the former foes.

    OAS General Assembly: a statement on Falklands/Malvinas can be expected

    The OAS general assembly two/day meeting is taking place in Santo Domingo

    This Monday evening the Organization of American States 46th General Assembly will officially open in Santo Domingo and this year's convening agenda refers to “Institutional Strengthening for Sustainable Development in the Americas”. The two day gathering is also expected to focus on the Venezuela, Haiti and the Inter-American Human Rights Commission situations, and as is the norm, the Falklands-Malvinas issue will be addressed or included in the final declaration.

    Argentina calls on UK to strengthen bilateral relations and for Malvinas dialogue

    On 10 June, Argentine recalls the creation in 1829 of the Political and Military Command of the Malvinas Islands under Vernet

    The Argentine government reiterates its full willingness for an open dialogue with the United Kingdom to strengthen the bilateral relation and indentify possible cooperation areas in the South Atlantic. Likewise it invites the UK to resume negotiations on the Malvinas question in the framework of the UN General Assembly resolution 2065, according to an official statement from the Argentine foreign ministry released on Friday.

    Lord Hague warns Brexit could put at risk Falklands' sovereignty and cautions about UK “disintegration”

    “The guaranteed solidarity of 28 nations, including those with strong historic links to Latin America, over British sovereignty over the Falkland Islands would be lost”.

    Former foreign secretary William Hague said that if Britain votes to leave the European Union, the Falkland Islands sovereignty could be put at risk, while Gibraltar would left in a very difficult position.     Argentine hopes dashed on Falklands, Antarctica: Continental Shelf Commission refused to consider three major claims

    The Commission is composed of 21 scientists and its Rules of Procedure forbid consideration of “unresolved land or maritime disputes”.

    In April 2009, Argentina submitted a formal claim to sovereignty over an exceptionally large continental shelf, across hundreds of miles of the sea-bed to the east and south of Argentina. This year, in March, newspapers around the world incorrectly reported the whole Argentine submission had been endorsed.

But they were mistaken. Argentina had made a submission to the Commission on the Limits of the Continental Shelf (CLCS) on 21 April 2009 to claim sovereignty rights over the resources of the sea-bed.
