In a joint initiative between the Falkland Islands government and the Foreign and Commonwealth Office, an agricultural exchange visit to Uruguay is being arranged for September 2019.
Uruguay's main agricultural, industrial and commercial show, Expo/Prado 2017 opened in Montevideo on Wednesday. The annual event, which this year is international, (it rotates with Argentina's Palermo show) is an opportunity for city people to admire the best cattle, sheep, horses and hogs of the region, and for the farmers a chance to see how much technology has advanced in the last twelve months.
Following the previous edition’s success, the British Embassy in Uruguay will be present for the fourth consecutive year at the agricultural show, Expo Prado, from 6 - 17 September, with a Pavilion centered on business, education, culture, gastronomy and entertainment, including a Falkland Islands stand.
If beef is not included, there won't be any agreement, said Uruguay's foreign minister Rodolfo Nin Novoa in anticipation of next week's meeting of European Union and Mercosur coordinators to adjust the list of goods and services the two blocks will formally exchange in mid October, the first formal meeting of its kind in fourteen years.
With just a month to go until Uruguay's main agro show, Expo Prado, the British Embassy in Montevideo announces that for the third consecutive year it will be present with a Great Pavilion focused on business, education, culture, tourism, gastronomy and entertainment. British brands such as JCB Machinery, Polo Club clothing, FCR-DAS who specialise in quality management certification, fire extinguishers from Noblex, Brompton and other bicycles courtesy of Muvin will all be taking part.
At a breakfast at the residence of Ambassador Ben Lyster-Binns on May 25th, the British Embassy in Montevideo and the Rural Association of Uruguay (ARU) presented the proposal for the British Pavilion at Expo Prado 2016. Representatives of several companies that have ties with the UK, many of which already formed part of the pavilion in 2015 and 2014, attended the event.
The UK GREAT pavilion at Uruguay's main agri-business exhibition in Montevideo received the top prize for its category while a stall from the Falkland Islands, tended to by Islanders, is estimated to have been visited by 10% of the more than half million visitors that attended the week-long Expo-Prado.
A business delegation from the Falkland Islands participated in Uruguay's main agri-business show at the Prado grounds with a stall in the British GREAT pavilion. The week attendance was described as 'surprising and successful' and Falklands lawmaker Gavin Short addressed an open letter thanking all those involved in helping with the Islands' presence.
The British embassy will be present at Uruguay's Prado agriculture show with a pavilion geared to promote business, education, culture, tourism, gastronomy and entertainment. The 110th edition of the Prado event, Uruguay's main agri-business display will take place in Montevideo, between September 9 and 20.
Next Wednesday Uruguay's main agro-show at the Prado's greens will open to receive over 2.277 livestock among which will be selected the top cattle (meat and dairy), sheep (wool and lambs), horses and swine of the country, in a display of advanced genetics.
