  Falklands' government operating surplus stands at £9.4 million

  

  The Falkland Islands Government Standing Finance Committee heard on Wednesday that the forecast operating surplus for the whole of the year now stands at £9.4 million. Expenditure is expected to ramp up over the remainder of the financial year, with plenty of infrastructure work being scheduled for the summer months.

  Air link from Cordoba to the Falklands confirmed by UK and Argentina

  

  The governments of Argentina and the United Kingdom reached an understanding to establish a second commercial air link to the islands, the Falkland Islands Government (FIG) confirmed on Tuesday followed by an official statement of the embassy of Argentina in the United Kingdom.

  Succesful identification of the 105 Argentine combatant buried in the Falklands

  

  Argentina's Human Rights Secretariat Claudio Avruj announced on Monday the identification of the 105th combatant whose remains are buried in the Falkland Islands under a gravestone that read “Argentine soldier, only known upon God”. Claudio Alfredo Bastida was a 19-year-old conscript who died in the Mount Longdon battle on 12 June 1982.

  New Zealand reports the death of some 145 pilot whales stranded in a beach

  

  Like it happened in the Falkland Islands earlier in the month a group of up to 145 pilot whales have died after becoming stranded on a beach on Stewart Island in New Zealand. The animals were discovered by walkers late on Saturday, strewn along the beach of Mason Bay.

  Appearance of ARA San Juan: Royal Navy crew paid their respects

  

  A year after the disappearance of the Argentine Navy’s submarine ARA San Juan, the crew of HMS Clyde, one of the British ships that participated in the search operation, yesterday showed their respects in an act of remembrance from the Falkland Islands. The act was given hours before the Ministry of Defense and the Argentine Navy confirmed that the Norwegian ship Seabed Constructor made the discovery.

  Argentina has announced the identification of combatant 103 whose remains are buried in the Falkland Islands and after 36 years will have a gravestone with his full name, at the Argentine military cemetery in Darwin, Victor Rodriguez.

  Premier Oil confident in reducing debt; begins drilling in Mexico

  

  Premier Oil said it expected full-year production to come in at the low end of a previously announced 80,000 to 85,000 barrels per day range.   Falklands' patrol HMS Clyde visits South Georgia on fishery protection

  

  The Falkland Islands patrol ship HMS Clyde is on her usual patrol area during the austral summer which is South Georgia, 700 miles away. The remote archipelago is as far south of the Equator as Newcastle upon Tyne is north of the invisible line around the globe – but without the benefit of the Gulf Stream, endures far less clement weather.
