    Falklands’ government and fishing industry seek support in Galicia

    Conxemar Seafood Exhibition in Vigo Spain with more than 700 exhibitors received 35,000 visitors, they estimated business volume in more than 2,000 million euros.

    A delegation from the Falkland Islands government was last week in Vigo, Spain to support Falklands Fishing Company Association (FIFCA) members attending the Conxemar Seafood Exhibition and to reinforce the Falkland Islands case during Brexit negotiations.

    Falklands increases retirement age from 64 to 65 in 2020

    The decision arose out of an actuarial review of the FIG Retirement Pension Fund (RPF) carried out in 2016, which found the fund to hold a £82m deficit

    The Falkland Islands Executive Council has approved changes to the Retirement Pensions Ordinance that will increase the retirement age from 64 to 65 in 2020. The changes reflect a policy initially approved by ExCo in 2013 and later by Budget Select Committee during the 2017/18 budget process. Those changes proposed an increase in the retirement age by a year every ten years as of 2020.

    FIH Group has seen pretax profit rise 74%

    The Falkland Islands Company unit saw revenue rise 2.4% to 18.3 million and pretax profit 23% to GBP1.3 million.

    Falklands-focused retail and logistics firm FIH Group PLC hiked its dividend on Tuesday after profit and revenue rose amid a much improved performance from its largest unit. For the year ended March, pretax profit widened 74% to GBP3.3 million from GBP1.9 million the year prior. This was after revenue rose 8.2% to GBP43.8 million from GBP40.5 million the year before.

    Falklands' Government Investment funds reached £344 million in June 2017

     In the funds managed by FIG’s external investment managers, the market value increased from £157 million at the end of June 2016 to £176 million in 2017

    The market value of all Falkland Islands Government, FIG, investment funds have increased from £285 million in June 2015, to £309 million in June 2016 and to £344 million in June 2017.

    Falklands: Red Cross exhumation of Argentine remains in three phases

    With 123 graves to be exhumed but 140 families waiting for news, the exhumation and identification of Argentine war dead in the Falklands will bring answers to some families, but not every family involved, Head of the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) and Operational Coordinator for the project to identify the remains of Argentine soldiers buried at Darwin Cemetery.

    Falklands announces the Queen's Birthday Parade, April 21st

    The Parade will proceed along the usual lines, including a 21 gun salute and a fly past, and by a march past at which the Governor will take the Royal Salute.

    The Falkland Islands Government has announced that the parade to celebrate the birthday of Her Majesty the Queen will be held at Victory Green in Stanley on Friday 21st April 2017. The parade will form up at Victory Green at 10.20 hours and His Excellency the Governor will arrive at 10.30 hours.

    The Falkland Islands government has announced that with the introduction of the new Telecommunications Ordinance, recent focus has been on setting up structures to regulate the Sure exclusive license.
