  Argentine foreign ministry informs Tierra del Fuego delegation on the current Malvinas policy

  

  Overall the Argentine government is satisfied how relations with the UK regarding the South Atlantic, and Falklands' sovereignty claims are evolving, was the message with which members of the so called Malvinas Question Observatory from Tierra del Fuego province, returned to Ushuaia after meeting with foreign ministry officials in Buenos Aires, according to local media reports.

  National Geographic apologizes for publishing Malvinas pictures as from the Falklands

  

  National Geographic has apologized to Tierra del Fuego governor Rosana Bertone for publishing in Instagram pictures identified as taken in the Falklands, instead of the Malvinas Islands. According to Ushuaia reports, aware of this situation, the Environment Secretary of Tierra del Fuego Mauro Pérez Toscani, on instructions from Ms Bertone addressed the National Geographic Foundation to express disappointment and demaning rectification of the Malvinas controversy.

  Busy cruise visitors week for Ushuaia: 20.000 landed during January

  

  Ushuaia in the extreme south of Argentina is experiencing one of the busiest weeks of the current cruise season with six vessels and thousands of visitors calling at the capital of Tierra del Fuego.   Malvinas Day will be remembered every 2 April in Puerto Argentino (Stanley), when sovereignty is recovered

  

  The Argentine Senate has approved a bill establishing the Day of the Malvinas War Veteran and Fallen, which will be remembered every April 2nd in the Tierra del Fuego city of Puerto Argentino (Stanley, Falkland Islands), once sovereignty over the Islands is recovered. Until then the event will take place in the city of Ushuaia, capital of the Tierra del Fuego, Antarctica and South Atlantic Islands province.

  Argentina inaugurates Tierra del Fuego offshore gas deposit which provides 8% of the country's demand

  

  Argentina formally inaugurated the Vega Pleyade gas and condensate deposit off the coast of Tierra del Fuego considered the most austral of its kind in the world, and which has been supplying the country with nine million cubic meters daily since February 2016. The well is operated by French Total (37.5%) together with Wintershall Energy (37.5%) and Panamerican South (25%), demanded an investment of 1.1bn dollars over three years.

  The initiative from an Argentine member of Congress to create a flag for the Malvinas Islands was rejected by Tierra del Fuego governor Rosana Bertone, who recalled that the Malvinas Islands are an integral part of the province of Tierra del Fuego, Antarctica and South Atlantic Islands.

  Bertone invites Falkland Islanders to become Tierra del Fuego citizens

  

  Tierra del Fuego governor Rosana Bertone called the Falkland Islanders “fueguinos” and invited them to integrate based on respect for “cultural diversity”. Ms Bertone was addressing the crowd on Sunday at the Malvinas Fallen monument in Ushuaia on Sunday, 35th anniversary of the Argentine military invasion of the Falklands and which according to the local calendar is the Malvinas Veterans and Fallen Day.

  Argentina will cull 100,000 beavers which are devastating southern woodlands by gnawing down huge trees, officials said this week. The plague of big-toothed rodents has struck in the Tierra del Fuego province, a far southern region known as “the End of the World.”
