    The US tourism industry is suffering from the “Trump slump”

    The US “Trump slump”, points to the president's America First rhetoric and anti-immigrant comments, as well as tighter visa rules for some countries

    Travel to the US is falling, a decline some in the tourism industry blame on US President Donald Trump. The number of international visitors fell by 4% in the first seven months of 2017, according to the US National Travel & Tourism Office and the trend occurred across all regions, with Africa and the Middle East reporting some of the most dramatic declines.

    Portugal, India, Indonesia and Spain win UNWTO awards for tourism innovation

    Attended by 500 participants from different countries the Awards Ceremony, emphasized how tourism has embraced sustainable and innovative approaches.

    Turismo de Portugal I.P (Portugal), Ecotourism Trust (India), Tryponyu (Indonesia) and SEGGITUR (Spain) are the winners of the 14th Edition of the UNWTO Awards for Innovation in Tourism. Fourteen projects among 128 applicants from 55 countries were selected as finalists of the 14th UNWTO Awards for Innovation in Tourism.

    FITUR Gay again one of the sections with the largest presence at the Trade Show

    The International Tourism Trade Show of Madrid, FITUR, hosting its 8th edition of FITUR GAY (LGBT), a monographic section dedicated to LGBT tourism, organized in collaboration with the consulting firm LGBT Diversity Consulting International and IFEMA, opened this Wednesday in Madrid and will last until January 21.

    Far less Argentines than expected crossed to Chile for the Pope's visit

    Argentine born pope Francis three-day visit to neighboring Chile attracted less of his countrypeople than was expected according to the preparations and border controls. The Argentine Gendarmerie at the Christ Redempteur pass, reported that on Sunday, 4.283 people in 1.995 vehicles crossed to Chile plus another 2.966 faithfull in 77 coaches.

    Global tourist arrivals up 7% in 2017, strongest result in seven years forecasted to continue in 2018

    2017 was characterized by sustained growth in many destinations and a firm recovery in those that suffered decreases in previous years.

    International tourist arrivals grew by a remarkable 7% in 2017 to reach a total of 1,322 million, according to the latest UNWTO World Tourism Barometer. This strong momentum is expected to continue in 2018 at a rate of 4%-5%.

    “Carnival Triumph” fails CDC sanitation inspection, for the first time ever

    Deficiencies identified included poorly maintained or soiled backflow preventers on potable water lines; two bathing pools with water levels below the required level

    The cruise ship that earned the “poop cruise” moniker in 2013 has failed her sanitation inspection for the first time ever. In a report completed in November and released earlier this week, inspectors with the U.S. Centers for Disease Control (CDC) gave the Carnival Triumph a score of 78 out of 100, well below the required 86-point margin for a passing grade. It is the first time she has ever failed an inspection, according to two decades of CDC records, and the first time since 2009 that her score fell below 90 points.

    Norway laughs at Australia's blooper on polar bear attacks

    Norway’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs tweeted a helpful clarification for Australian travelers, who had been warned by their government about Norwegian polar bear attacks.
