    Alas Uruguay, LAW agree on 100% buyover

    Latin American Wings (LAW) and the Uruguayan company reached an agreement whereby the new owners will keep 50% of the current staff, government authorization pending. Alas Uruguay and the Chilean airline Latin American Wings (LAW) reached a “framework agreement” on Thursday as “the first step towards integration,” it was announce in Montevideo.

    Latam/BA/Iberia deal questioned by Brazil´s competition regulator

    The companies already have 70 to 80% of the market between Sao Paulo and London, and 50 to 60% between Sao Paulo and Madrid.

    Brazil's competition regulator Cade said on Monday that a deal between LATAM Airlines LAN.SN, British Airways and Iberia could have a negative impact on routes between Brazil and Europe. Chile-headquartered LATAM signed joint business agreements in January to deepen its ties with American Airlines Group and IAG's British Airways and Iberia, all members of the Oneworld Alliance.

    World's largest cruise vessel, Harmony of the Seas, begins to operate from Florida

    The Royal Caribbean's 226,963-ton Harmony of the Seas, on late Saturday departed on its maiden voyage out of Fort Lauderdale, Florida, its new long-term home. Escorted out to sea by a flotilla of jetboard and jetpack performers, the 16-deck-high vessel set sail on a short, three-day trip that kicks off a week of welcoming events. The events include an official christening ceremony scheduled for Thursday.

    Chilean group interested in Alas to meet with Uruguayan government

    Alas Uruguay hopes to survive through new investors

    Chilean airline LAW (Latin American Wings) had submitted a letter of intent on Friday and now it intends to go ahead with the talks. Company representatives are expectd to arrive in Montevideo on Thursday to hold meetings with Alas Uruguay authorities and with the Transport and Public Works Minister Victor Rossi.

    A “flat” cruise season officially begins this week in Montevideo

    Kechichian revealed that Uruguay is working with Argentine authorities to recover the cruise business:“it won't be easy to bring them back, but we are working on it”

    Insignia marks the official beginning of the cruise season for Punta Arenas

    Insignia arrived with 684 passengers and a crew of 400, after undergoing a multimillion-dollar upgrading.

    With the arrival this Monday of M/V Insignia to Punta Arenas in the extreme south of Chile, and capital of the Magallanes region has officially declared opened the 2016/17 cruise season.     It will cover more than 1.55 million square kilometres, roughly the size of Britain, Germany and France combined—of which 1.12 million square kilometres will be a no fishing zone.

    The world's largest marine reserve aimed at protecting the pristine wilderness of Antarctica will be created after a “momentous” agreement was finally reached Friday, with Russia dropping its long-held opposition. The deal, sealed by the Conservation of Antarctic Marine Living Resources (CCAMLR) at an annual meeting in Hobart after years of negotiations, will see a massive US and New Zealand-backed marine protected area established in the Ross Sea.
