    Photo competition on the Falklands' 35-year huge progress and development

    In addition to the photo exhibition, a new booklet on the Falklands will also be released at the event, illustrating the vast changes that have occurred since 1982.

    The Falkland Islands Government PR & Media Office is currently running a photo competition to source quality images of the Falkland Islands.

    St Helena airport scheduled to receive 80 pax Avro RJ100 to be delivered in Chile

    The Avro RJ100 ((picture) is scheduled to land in St Helena airport on Friday 21 October 2016.

    Planning is underway for an Avro RJ100 jet aircraft, operated by Tronos Jet Maintenance and flown by Atlantic Star Airlines, with final destination Chile, to fly to Ascension Island, followed by a call at St Helena Airport on the same day. Both are technical stops, and the crew will overnight on St Helena.

    The airline industry agreed on a framework for reducing its carbon footprint at a UN meeting in Montreal, the first commercial sector on its own to tackle climate change. Six years of negotiations culminated in what International Civil Aviation Organization president Azharuddin Abdul Rahman called a “historic” deal at the ICAO's plenary session to cap carbon-dioxide emissions by 2035 at 2020 levels.

    Cruise ships forced to divert Caribbean schedule by Hurricane Matthew

    The 2,124-passenger Carnival Pride, which departed Baltimore, Maryland has sailed northward to New York and Canada instead of southward to the Caribbean

    Hurricane Matthew is forcing a growing number of cruise ships to alter course as it barrels northward toward Haiti, Cuba and the Bahamas. Cruise giant Carnival has rerouted half a dozen ships scheduled to visit ports in the region over the next few days, including the Carnival Sensation, Carnival Splendor and Carnival Ecstasy.

    Cruise industry booming in Australia, the fourth largest source market

    A record 41 ships from CLIA member cruise lines would be based in Australia or visiting local waters between October 1, 2016, and April 30, 2017

    Australia will welcome an unprecedented number of cruise ships this summer, with more than 40 vessels sailing in local waters - including eight ships making their maiden visit over the next few months. Among the flotilla will be the largest ship to visit Australia, Royal Caribbean’s 167,000-ton Ovation of the Seas, as well as the youngest and most luxurious ship ever to cruise Oceania waters, the boutique Seabourn Encore, which will arrive two weeks after it is officially named in Singapore.

    Ushuaia encouraged by a cruise season that includes 245 Antarctica calls

    The first Antarctic cruise is scheduled for 17 October with the Ushuaia (Antarpply Expeditions) which has a 90 passengers capacity.

    Ushuaia remains as Antarctic gate king this 2016/2017 cruise season with 245 out of its 305 calls (45 vessels) heading for the extreme south ice covered continent, according to the data published by the Tierra del Fuego Tourism Institute Infuetur. The season took off in early September with the arrival of Chilean flagged Stella Australis, and its 210 passengers heading for Cape Horn

    Punta Arenas cruise season anticipated to be weaker than in 2015/2016

    The first international cruise, “Insignia” is scheduled to arrive at Punta Arenas on 29 October with 1.084 passengers

    Foreign tourists in Argentina will be refunded VAT on hotel services

    Macri signed the order at Casa Rosada during a World Tourism Day event with Tourism minister Santos, Finance minister Prat Gay and industry representatives.

    Argentine president Mauricio Macri signed an executive order on Tuesday under which foreign tourists will receive a refund of the value-added tax, or VAT, paid on hotel services in an effort to attract more visitors to Argentina and boost tourist businesses.

This is why UNWTO has chosen to celebrate World Tourism Day 2016 on the theme of accessible tourism. Official celebrations will take place on 27 September in Bangkok, Thailand.
