    Chile connects Latin America's largest solar plant to the national grid

    The El Romero Solar plant in Chile features 776,000 photovoltaic modules.

    Spanish clean energy company Acciona Energía has connected the 246MW El Romero solar plant in Atacama desert, Chile to the county’s Interconnected Central System (SIC), becoming Latin America's largest. The US$343m El Romero Solar plant features 776,000 polycrystalline silicon photovoltaic modules, spread across 280ha area in the municipality of Vallenar, 645km north of the Santiago.

    DAP Airways opens summer link between Punta Arenas and Ushuaia

    Alas Uruguay, LAW agree on 100% buyover

    Latin American Wings (LAW) and the Uruguayan company reached an agreement whereby the new owners will keep 50% of the current staff, government authorization pending. Alas Uruguay and the Chilean airline Latin American Wings (LAW) reached a “framework agreement” on Thursday as “the first step towards integration,” it was announce in Montevideo.

    South American presidents and who they would like to see at the White House

    Temer admitted concern but “no US president can do whatever he pleases, since in the United States institutions work with an effective system of checks and balances”

    A majority of South American presidents would prefer to see former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton at the White House, while a few believe whoever wins will make not much of a difference for the continent. Nevertheless be it Hillary or Trump there is mostly respect for US institutions.

    Chilean group interested in Alas to meet with Uruguayan government

    Chilean airline LAW (Latin American Wings) had submitted a letter of intent on Friday and now it intends to go ahead with the talks. Company representatives are expectd to arrive in Montevideo on Thursday to hold meetings with Alas Uruguay authorities and with the Transport and Public Works Minister Victor Rossi.

    Insignia marks the official beginning of the cruise season for Punta Arenas

    Insignia arrived with 684 passengers and a crew of 400, after undergoing a multimillion-dollar upgrading.

    With the arrival this Monday of M/V Insignia to Punta Arenas in the extreme south of Chile, and capital of the Magallanes region has officially declared opened the 2016/17 cruise season. It is estimated that 102.000 tourists will be visiting the region, although the number of vessel calls will drop drastically from 121 to 86.

The Falkland Islands Youth football team is currently in Chile this week training and competing in a week-long tournament against local sides.
