  Falklands' Tourist Board focuses on digital marketing strategy

  

  The current focus of the Falkland Islands Tourist Board's digital marketing strategy is social media marketing using Facebook, Twitter and Instagram, confirmed Executive Director Stephanie Middleton. The Board has turned to the popular sites in order to raise awareness of the Falklands and in turn increase the number of visitors in the new website.

  Argentina confident Falklands dialogue is advancing gently

  

  Argentine foreign minister Jorge Faurie said dialogue on the Falkland/Malvinas Islands with the United Kingdom is “advancing” and both countries are determined to “enrich the relation”, but it is a path which is possible as long as the sovereignty of the Islands is not discussed.

  Refuelling Hub for South Atlantic Airbridge confirmed as Cape Verde

  

  The Ministry of Defence (MoD) is pleased to announce that a final decision has been taken on the location of the refuelling hub for the South Atlantic Airbridge (SAA). The SAA will continue to transit through Sal, Cape Verde until 2020, when the Ascension Island runway resurfacing project is expected to be complete.

  Falklands war new book says invading Argentines faced fierce defense from Marines and suffered heavy casualties

  

  A new book has challenged the official account of the Falklands War, including allegedly one of the worst kept secrets of the conflict. The First Casualty, written by noted military historian Ricky Phillips, reveals that, far from surrendering without a fight when the Argentines invaded the Islands in April 1982, a detachment of Royal Marines battled for more than two hours and killed around 100 of their opponents.

  Falklands' 2016 Census (I): Population 3.200; Camp increased 9%, for the first since 1950s'

  

  The Falkland Islands government Policy and Economic Unit has released the 2016 Census Report (*) which indicates that the total number of people counted in the Islands on census night, 9 October 2016, was 3,354. This figure includes visitors to the Islands and people who are not normally resident in the country, for example tourists or crew on vessels in Falklands waters on census night.

  Cutting steel ceremony for Royal Navy's First Type 26: “HMS Glasgow”

  

  The first of eight new Type 26 frigates being built for the Royal Navy has been named HMS Glasgow. The name was revealed by Defense Secretary Sir Michael Fallon as he cut the first steel on the ship at BAE System's Govan shipyard. The last HMS Glasgow, a Type 42 Destroyer, was awarded the “Falkland Islands 1982” battle honor. The new anti-submarine warfare frigates will be known as the City Class.
